Angelino

I don't mind having him TBH. Home grown and club grown so he's not really taking anyone's place in the team. He's serviceable to say the least. He's great going forward. He's terrible in defense, but who of our current LB options isn't?

If he wants to fight for his place, then let him.

Agree with the last bit. He can fight for his place if he wants. The system doesn’t to just fit him. He’s a good WB. A good coach to look after him and he’d become a very good attacking WB. Not the greatest at the back but like you said, who is?

The inverted FB doesn’t just suit his game. It’d be nice if he could give it another go. If he doesn’t want to then RB Leipzig to pay up.

I seem to remember every game last year seem to be alongside either fernan/otta or stones. He never got the chance of being next to somebody like laporte. I feel like him getting a run of games with a more solid back 4(or5) with either laporte or ake could really benefit him and we could judge him better then. Would give him another chance. He's surly more reliable then mendy

He is 23 year old, playing every week with one of the good teams in Germany.

If I was on his place, I would do everything I can to continue playing every week.

It would make sense if we would played him regularly and we do play wing backs more regularly (Angelino's strongest position). Angelino's problem isn't a lack of playing time but being comfortable in Pep's system. He didn't look like he was during his spell no matter how short it seemed.
As others have pointed out, it’s not simply a question of comfort in the system but also familiarity with the personnel. In the early part of last season, we lost the entire left of our team, Mendy/Laporte/Sane, so it was difficult for everyone throughout the season. If he returns, we’ll see how he adapts and perhaps whether Guardiola adapts.

I'd like to see us try out 3-5-2 more often next season and this lad is clearly very suited to it.. Think we'd see a better Mendy in the formation too.

Maybe it's something Ake was told would be happening as would he have so happily signed as a back-up?

If in a 3-5-2 one of the three is also acting as the DM, maybe Ake with his pace, then I like this idea very much. It would essentially be two at the back but with two quick wing backs and an anchor ready to aid in recovery of the ball.

But going forward it would enable insane width, and basically the DM becomes the pivot and it allows seven players in front of him to move around and look for space, whilst having the luxuary of two true centre backs behind him to ensure the ball CA always go back to stay with us if needed.

In that system you'd have to say Angelino is the better option over Zinchenko, possiblity even Mendy at times. I'd love to again see us laying one wide player in to cross low and hard, to the other wide player for a simple tap in. Sane and Sterling were unstoppable attunes doing that, but it normally needs a lefty on the left and a righty on the right.

Didn't you see enough of it against Lyon? It is an awful system.
