Animosity towards County

why dont u support stockport then?
I too am a City fan that lives in Stockport. As for why I don't support them, well it's three fold.

1 - My dad, born and raised in Gorton, is a City fan, he used to be a season ticket holder in the 1970's/early 1980's until family commitments and financial issues meant he couldn't afford to go anymore. He took me to my first City game in 1984 and I was hooked.

2 - As a child I had absolutely no idea Stockport County even existed. City were a Division One/Division Two side during my childhood whereas County were a Division Four side. We never played them, they were never on the TV, so I had no clue they were even there.

3 - I live in Reddish, that's about as north Stockport as you get. 50 yards from my front door is the border between Stockport and Manchester. I actually live closer to COMS than Edgeley Park, closer to Maine Road than Edgeley Park and closer to Manchester City Centre than Stockport Town Centre. I fail to see why, because my house is 50 yards south of the border, I should be a County fan but, had I lived 51 yards further north, it would be totally acceptable for me to support City and no questions would be asked.

I thought I'd said my last word on the subject but I thought I'd see what else had been posted and saw that you're all going off on one.
Let me just address a few points, there are more blues than rags in Stockers, thats a fact and I am not "crawling back" as I've never been away, I've been attending City games since the 70s and can get to more now because we usually play on different days due to SKy dictating premier league fixtures. I am not a rag, never have been, never will be.
If we end up at Dagenham, Accrington and Morecombe next year thats fine, they're all good days out.
Never forget that your financial position was far worse than ours before Thaksin and the Sheikh bailed you out, which I'm happy about because because now I get to see the likes of Elano, Robinho and Wright Phillips on my City supporting days.
I've never gone in for this thing about having to support your local team either, I choose to because it means more to me, but I've always said it's a free choice, support who ever you want to support.

On paper you are correct, however we may have been £60m in debt in comparison to your much smaller debt, but the £60m was 'manageable'. We didn't have too much money to spend on transfers and yes, relegation to the Championship would have been a possibility, but points deductions and going out of business/into receivership NEVER was. We had enough guaranteed income to make such a situation impossible. The money owed was due for payment in installments, installments we were able to make based on ticket and merchandise income.

How do you know?

I am not a rag, never have been, never will be.

yes you are

Good ..support your club and keep away from OURS.

The Sheikh bailed us out? Not a City fan response m8....but your point was well answered by a previous poster.

which I'm happy about because now I get to see the likes of Elano, Robinho and Wright Phillips on my City supporting days.

plastic glory hunter.

support who ever you want to support.

Ok..so support C.unty and not two teams It's physically impossible to support two clubs ffs.

CTID and ONLY City.

having left manchester for university in london back in 1984, my perspective might be a little different than others. I generally like north west teams to do ok. And when i can be bothered to look at the lower leagues (no dig) i'm always looking to see if County have hopefully won. So no animosity whatsoever. i'd love it if we could take 6 points of county in the premiership every season.

Not a fucking chance, the difference being that most of the blues actually go to the games, where as scum sit and watch the games on TV and like remind everyone just how much of a **** they are when they win something. In primary school I was one of only two blues in the whole school and the other lad even turned red. In my secondary school, I'd say there were about 10 blues in my year and every one of them either went to the games or had at least been in there lifetime.
