Annoying Americanisms

Period. As in, Nasri was rubbish yesterday, period.
Its full stop! Full fucking stop.

Do the math.
Its maths. Or sums. Do the sums would be better.

Math is short for arithmetic
Maths is short for mathamatics

I had to investigate an accident last week and the bloke involved said he'd tripped over on the sidewalk.
I know Australia is very America-lite but I was a bit put out by this to say the least and sent the form back to him to be altered.
The legal department would have sent it back anyway, but the prick accused me of being pedantic.

in all honesty you perhaps were being a bit arsey

maybe he was American

its my mission in life to help people where I can :)

I was watching some Police programme a while back and after a driver had been stopped the policeman told him to stand on the sidewalk.

It was somewhere in southeast England, but it immediately stood out.

I don't have a beef against Americans at all, but they can be annoying without knowing it. I was treasurer of a sports club for a few years, and the club had a Lacrosse section. Every year there was an exchange. Our young players would go to the USA, the following year their players would come to England. The exchanges lasted 2 weeks.

They were very polite and well behaved, but I did get a bit pissed off with them after having to explain to them, after 2 weeks, that we didn't sell chips, we sold crisps, we didn't have candy, we had sweets and chocolate bars, we didn't sell soda.

I don't know why they were immune to our cultural differences, but it was a cultural exchange that never registered with them at all.

''Step up to the plate''
No, grasp the nettle, is much more acceptable than an irritating reference to Rounders in pyjamas.

''Take a rain check''
Or, ''I'd prefer not to, if you don't mind.''

Any more get right on your tits?
Is it nettle or mettle?

Tender-handed stroke a nettle,
And it stings you, for your pains:
Grasp it like a man of mettle,
And it soft as silk remains.
