Chelsea & Manchester City paid for lack of history in race for Guardiola, hints Rio Ferdinand
The highly sought-after 42-year-old manager will take over the reins of the German giants at the end of the season now, replacing the retiring Jupp Heynckes at the helm.
A short-term approach and lack of history saw Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester City miss out on the services of Pep Guardiola, according to Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.
The former Barcelona coach - who won 16 pieces of silverware during a trophy-laden four-year stint at the Catalan club - announced his long-awaited comeback on Wednesday, with Bayern Munich clinching the much-lauded manager’s signature despite heavy interest from England.
Guardiola is set to sign a three-year deal until 2016, replacing the retiring Jupp Heynckes in the process, in a move that Ferdinand was both surprised yet supportive of.
Ferdinand posted on Twitter: "The news yesterday of Pep going to Bayern Munich was a shock...until you step back and think why...stability, organised, competitive in CL.
"Money to invest, history+time I'm assuming to put his stamp on the club... he obviously wasn't guaranteed all that at other clubs linked to!"
Nothing he says there that is incorrect.
Everything he lists is true though:gordondaviesmoustache said:SWP's back said:He is a cock but hints at no such thing.Rocket Sauce said:And then there's this fucking cock slapper: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/01/17/3678237/chelsea-manchester-city-paid-for-lack-of-history-in-race-for" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/pre ... n-race-for</a>

Apart from, with tiresome predictability, making history synonymous with winning trophies.
"he obviously wasn't guaranteed that at other clubs he was linked to", implies more than the praise for Munich to which you refer.SWP's back said:Everything he lists is true though:gordondaviesmoustache said:SWP's back said:He is a cock but hints at no such thing.

Stable
Organised
Competitive in the CL
Money
History
Time to put stamp on club.
He isn't inferring others don't have those things, just confirming that after his initial surprise, when he looks at those things, he can understand the decision.
I fucking hate Ferdinand but I don't think he went fishing with that tweet.

Bayern Munich are the rags of Germany and have by far the biggest financial clout
Stability and time to put stamp on the club is what I think he was referring to with that remark. It would be weird to say someone was not "guaranteed history"gordondaviesmoustache said:"he obviously wasn't guaranteed that at other clubs he was linked to", implies more than the praise for Munich to which you refer.SWP's back said:Everything he lists is true though:gordondaviesmoustache said:Apart from, with tiresome predictability, making history synonymous with winning trophies.

All clubs have history. City, Bayern Munich and even united.

His decision is based on fear of failure

That is exactly what I thought. It's a cop out. I think Pep's star is currently the highest it's ever going to get. It will be interesting but my guess is it's all downhill from here.

You do realise it's been three years since Bayern won the league ? I realise that they will win it this year but suggesting the German league isn't competitive or that Pep has an easy job at Bayern isn't an opinion I personally think is rooted in the reality of the situation in Germany. It's a competitive league, albeit with not as many top teams as PL has, but still he faces a challenge from Dortmund which will get stronger not weaker.
Anyway, time will tell how he does, but when you read the opinions on why people think he joined Bayern, you can begin to make sense of the decisions on a personal as well as footballing level. Chelsea and City are probably a decade behind Bayern in terms of having the kind of infrastructure they have.
