It needs saying again.
A carrier is a lumbering target without a support group.
We only have 6 destroyers and not all of them are sea worthy so at any one time we could only deploy one carrier.
Errr none of them are seaworthy or rather, battle worthy.
The engines can’t provide the power for everything on board especially in heat.
Big design flaw, which is hard to fix as the engines aren’t designed to be removed/replaced.
Iirc extra small engine will be retro fitted somewhere (?!?) to provide extra power, to stop the entire ship blowing fuse.
As to UK aircraft carriers (and the planes that we have to ask to use...), they have swallowed up a large proportion of the shrinking budget.
Add to that, that a decision on Trident replacement (or not) will have to be made soon, and that’s another mega billion off the basic defense expenditure.
We’ve just sold the perfectly decent HMs ocean (a few years after major update) for relative peanuts.
Plus some other newish smaller vessels , again for relative peanuts. (Support/replenishments and small patrol craft)
So we have an aircraft carrier (the other will be mothballed as soon as built), with no decent escorts (or enough for other duties), not enough support vessels to be deployed far afield...
it’s a bit of a mess.
There’s no way the UK could take part in anything major
