I thought we were talking in the context of a deal and what Boris’s proposals were? I believe he’s off to Dublin next week to discuss with our Irish friends. Yet he’s being accused of not wanting a deal.

He might well want a deal but you said the EU were lying about progress. Him saying he wants a deal isn't progress without a realistic alternative to the backstop.

I'm not sure that counts as progress. Maybe the EU negotiators are close enough to proceedings to gauge if there is any substance to Johnson's proposals or whether they are bluster and wishful thinking
And maybe they wanted to provide an excuse for their friends in the Tory party to vote against their own government.

I don't think me and you are going to agree on this. I think though that Boris is doing enough to alienate his own party without any help from Europe.

The fact remains that the talk of no progress leaked from the EU side, coincidental timing no doubt, was used by Tory rebels to justify their actions. You might believe the EU are whiter than white and incapable of such duplicity, but I can smell a rat.

I agree with all this, except....

Fascism is indeed dangerous, but we didn't fight the 2nd World War to defeat fascism, that was not the reason we fought it and if it had been, then we lost.

Once that conflict ended we were happy for Franco to rule Spain for another 30 years and we propped up fascists all over the shop during the cold war.

Noble aspirations are always pinned to wars, war for civilisation, war against Imperial German militarism, war against fascism, they're never the reason these wars start and they're never the reason they're fought.

To be fair pal, I didn't say it was the reason why the war was fought, it was my grandparents view that they were fighting against it and I have no doubt that helped them through the struggles.
