Govt statement on Overseas Territories. Good news on Lobsters. Gibraltar ‘is complicated’ - although it will likely fall under EU remit. Falklands have 6% tariff on squid which will need ‘support’.

This section was a bit ‘whiny’ for a Govt statement.

Despite trying everything we could, the European Commission refused to negotiate a future relationship that included the OTs. We sought to change the Commission’s position, but it declined to engage.‘

Come bob, chin up. Surely now it's time for us to all get behind a positive and forward looking rejoin campaign rather than dwell on the things we can't change?

Morning gents, how are you two today? Late start for me as I had a few drinks last night and feel a bit shabby. Did the Lords vote that deal through?

I‘m doing a lot better than Renee Watson, who is having a bad day as she tells the FT.

‘Today I find out that thanks to Brexit, from the 1.1.2021 (yes in 2 days time) the CE mark that demonstrates our products conform with regulations is no longer valid for the products we have in development & won't be valid on ANY of our products from 1.1.2022.

This means all our packaging has to be changed & we need to re-assess EVERY product we have developed. Not only that, the new UKCA mark doesn't cover Northern Ireland, so we'll also have to get everything we want to sell into NI certified with a UKNI mark as well.

The immediate financial cost of this to my small business is around £20,000!!! I WISH I had that sitting in the bank!! Add in the ongoing costs, not to mention the loss of revenue from inevitable loss of income from NI nor the increase costs in all areas of the supply chain.’

Faisal Islam with the snark as Johnson Senior, who announced he is ‘now a leaver’, is set to claim French nationality. I guess when he said he was a leaver he meant it literally!

‘SJ was well known pro-EU campaigner, even on Cameron’s bus day before EUref.. but the PM’s Dad announcing on French radio he’s going to claim French citizenship/EU passport on day those rights stop for rest UK as result of his son’s deal is a... plot twist‘

This tickled me :)

‘Jair Bolsonaro, President of Brazil, has been named the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project’s 2020 Person of the Year for his role in promoting organized crime and corruption.’ @RAzevedo
Seems legit.

Enjoy tonight raising your glass to the King o'er the water, and looking forward to rejoining.

Even A320 wings made in the U.K. -- which isn’t targeted by the new measures -- are completed in Germany.

complete them in the UK airbus you know it makes sense.

Or lobby the Biden admin to ease them. Biden wants to re-engage with the EU and has already prioritised links with Paris and Berlin over London.

A lot of the Biden team are from the Obama days and they haven’t forgotten or forgiven Johnson’s ’part Kenyan‘ dig.

I thought Gib had already done a side-deal with Spain on cross-border stuff.

Good, then he shouldn’t come asking for British help in his new middle east war.
Brexit the gift that keeps giving.

Surely a rejoin movement is legitimate? Leavers got their way after 40 years of campaigning. So why not?
Of course. Should be interesting watching them explain how giving up sovereignty, control of borders, laws and economics will benefit us. Not forgetting, of course, that new members are obliged to give up their currency (and therefore any control of the economy) and join the success that is the €

Not especially, I think a lot will hinge on the equivalency discussions with the EU next year. EU regulators were demanding more information from City institutions before even sitting down to discuss equivalency and market access to Europe.

Like everyone else, UK businesses will be jumping through administrative hoops in order to get the market access they need. FT running with a Seafood business that now has to pay £95 per consignment as well the additional paperwork. Replicate that up and down the country and you realise we are still ‘paying’ for Single Market access, it’s just that the payment now falls on individual businesses rather than the Govt.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch.
Especially if its a prawn sandwich.
