Another new Brexit thread

Two questions. Do they meet fda standards now, and if so what about their manufacture are we planning to change?

Fair questions. I guess we might add to those with do drugs and medicines that currently meet fda standards via EU regulations need to be reevaluated and approved once they are no longer under the EU umbrella and if so what are the costs and timescales of those processes?

The amusing thing about project fear is the Govt publishing 138 pages of new regulatory and internal customs procedures, identifying over 30 sites for new lorry parks and customs infrastructure, introducing a border in Kent were hauliers cannot enter one of our own counties without correct paperwork and permits, proceeding with work on an internal customs border between countries in our own Union and the EU pressing to open an office in Belfast to ensure their customs rules and regs are being applied properly at NI ports.

If any of this had been posited as a potential outcome in the EU referendum, the hoots of derision from the Leave camp would have been epic and yet the above is just a taste of what will come to pass.

What is remarkable is the lack of comment from Brexiteers on the reality of what is happening right now. So, lets stick to what is actually happening rather than endlessly whining about posters on a football forum.

To be fair there is nothing definite about any of this yet but the fact that so much planning has gone into it shows the government see it as a reasonable possibility. Money well spent on consultants fees I’m sure on the off chance

As long as the government are insistent that any deal excludes a customs union and single market membership, quite a bit of it is definite, deal or no deal.

There is a new version of Project Fear being brought forward - but rather than orchestrated by the government it is undertaken by desperate reality deniers on internet forums

So now we have someone getting hold of a comment about some considerations that are being given to how to replace (at some point) the environmental payments and then try an make capital out of that - just childishness and ignorance.

Close to (your) home - the SG have just spent (lost) £ many millions on a programme of CAP reform and they have spent further money implementing capability and systems to manage the identification of land parcels as part of a revised approach to the accuracy of land management and payments to farmers. And, because it is the current work that it recognises the UK leaving the EU, replacement of CAP and the Single Application process (SAF).

There are all sorts of considerations being played into the thinking of Scotland's ARE (and they are working closely with DEFRA) with regards to rural land management, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preventing, controlling and eradicating animal disease, forestry management etc. Yes - such considerations will inform future policy decisions - but there will be no significant change for many years to come (at least 4 - probably more like 6)

So who doesn't think that it is a good idea for the government departments (across the UK) to work with the various communities involved in rural and farming to plan the replacement of CAP - and not just some form of a UK 'son of CAP'

And some on here use some crumb from the internet and think that they can use it to be clever

They say that a little knowledge is dangerous - it can also be embarrassing
Just on my way out, but is this a first? Actually engaging with a real issue and not cloaking it with "I know something you don't but you must guess what it is". Pity you couldn't avoid the demeaning abuse.

You've certainly got me with "ARE". I know about ARD (Agriculture and Rural Development) and I don't want to guess.

I'd appreciate any link to the CAP reform programme, but a lot of the other stuff seems to be about environmental improvements that one would expect in a time of climate change regardless of Brexit and changing from CAP (and feeds to my question about would you as a farmer hang back from making such improvements now at your own expense or wait till the new scheme pays you for making them).

No, this is all happening and this will happen even with a deal. The only way it doesn't happen as if we extend transition and continue trading on the same basis.

Once we come out of transition the 138 pages of rules and internal customs procedures kick in. We will need lorry parks, staging areas and customs infrastructure to allow for the legal changes in our trading with the EU. Hauliers will need a permit to enter Kent.

This is Brexit. This is what will happen when we trade on the basis of the UK/EU deal that is pretty much signed off apart from fishing, LPF/State aid and governance.

So do you think we underestimated the importance of the GFA and the potential impact of the Irish border issue in our planning for a post Brexit world (I say we but obviously I mean the leave campaign although with some foresight the remain campaign might also have highlighted this potential big issue)
You seem determined to hark back to what should have been said or understood in 2016

Does that provide some comfort zone of point of reference for you?

Fine if it does - but I have been clear that my posts are to do with what is being said and understood in October 2020 - which is where I am living my life.

I am not bothering with any more distractions onto things that I have no interest in

I'm well aware we are where we are and no "harking back" to what should have been said or understood in 2016 provides no comfort. Interesting that current polls suggest that many people who voted for Brexit now view things differently though.

Hopefully we'll hear no more from you about May and Robbins attempts to broker a Brexit deal as that is also in the past and we can focus on the very interesting ongoing negotiations.

Good point. A quick search will find about 180 mentions of May / Robbins since Johnson became PM by the poster that doesn’t hark back to the past.
