Isn't that part of the problem though? If folk thought even a little more about politics maybe we would have a better standard of politics. I sometimes think we deserve what we get through national apathy.
Yeah maybe you’re right but I wouldn’t want to live in a country that was obsessed with politics and there were constantly causes that were either left or right wing.

I’d like your average person to pay a bit more attention and be a bit more informed but not to a point of everyone constantly talking politics.

I'd like the electorate to at least know enough to determine when they are being lied to. That would be a nice start and hardly obsessive.

Quite easily struck? The revisionism here is breathtaking, we did not cave,
Macron was insisting on complete access to waters up until the death, and what, exactly, is in the detail that hasn't been scrutinised?
Despite years of being told we'd get Jack shit from the EU, we're now out the SM, CU and ECJ, we have a free trade deal, and can now strike deals wherever, and with whoever we like, all of which was not possible before.
Is anyone who hasn't got a deal with the EU rushing to sign a deal with us before they do a deal with the EU?

Why, what are we discussing now with the EU, and why is it going to take years?
Everything that's not in this deal. It need not take years, but we are (e.g.) negotiating for the GHIC, and why would you not want to cooperate on making journeys to the EU as straightforward as they are today but won't be tomorrow?

(When I say "you" I'm meaning most people, not those who think being delayed en route is an excellent proof of our sovereignty.)

What's immediately better is we're no longer subservient to a foreign court,
I know some were happy that we were, but most are not. Deals we have struck/are striking, have been negotiated with the UK's interests at heart, not
the interests of a large group of disparate countries and economies, all the concentration is now based on that fact. We now no longer pay billions to trade with anyone, including the EU.
Other benefits are not yet quantifiable, as we only leave tomorrow.
"Foreign court"? Like the WTO, the war crimes commission, any court arbitrating on any trade deal we now sign? It's not the British Empire as judge and jury in it's own cause - this is the real world.

We paid billions to avoid businesses paying billions. And that is quantifiable, at least in part. Two billion a year on extra customs officers (plus the cost to firms).

Do you really not know this or are you wumming?

Some of that is pretty old stuff regarding Mays tenure. Most of the mistakes were made early doors which made it difficult to recover from. The failure to include financial services in the agreement seems to be the biggest contemporary issue. i haven’t seen any impact analysis for what that means for the city. Have you?

Not especially, I think a lot will hinge on the equivalency discussions with the EU next year. EU regulators were demanding more information from City institutions before even sitting down to discuss equivalency and market access to Europe.

Like everyone else, UK businesses will be jumping through administrative hoops in order to get the market access they need. FT running with a Seafood business that now has to pay £95 per consignment as well the additional paperwork. Replicate that up and down the country and you realise we are still ‘paying’ for Single Market access, it’s just that the payment now falls on individual businesses rather than the Govt.

There’s no such thing as a free lunch.

People keep failing to understanding the fishing issue

Macron got a win for his election campaign and the UK got an acceptable deal - yet what have we lost?

Nothing really - instead we have the opportunity to squeeze that lemon again in 5 years
Two weeks ago we were talking about sending gunboats to the 200 mile limit. Having failed to keep EU boats out as a negotiating tactic this time, that's supposedly a good thing because we can use the same tactic again. By your lights, the lemon should have been independent coastal state marmalade by now.

Especially, it seems, UK fishermen.

Morning gents, how are you two today? Late start for me as I had a few drinks last night and feel a bit shabby. Did the Lords vote that deal through?
