So, the backstop must stay as an insurance policy against a border, which leads to no deal and the necessity to establish a border?

Yes. It’s called politics. A border imposed by the high handed arrogance of the Brits vs a border in two years time enabled by an Irish Govt that bowed to English threats. The Irish united against a familiar and common enemy vs the Irish divided and defeated by a familiar and common enemy.

It goes beyond trade just as the EU protecting the Single Market goes beyond just trade.

Anyone else got "network error" and can't see the Supreme Court?

Edit: got it via Guardian website

Unanimous judgement. First, the matter is justiciable.

Unlawful if preventing without justification Parliament carrying out its duties.

It was not a normal prorogation.

Exceptional circumstances of a fundamental change in the constitution. Parliament has a right to a voice. Effect was extreme. No justification.

No explanation of why it was necessary to prorogue for five weeks. Frustrated parts of Withdrawal Act timetable.

It's unlawful.

Prorogation is void, unlawful and of no effect.

Parliament has not been prorogued!

Nothing required of the PM....

If the good people of Scotland or Northern Ireland decide their future is not within the United Kingdom anymore then that is a matter for them and who am I to argue with what the people of a nation want to do . That’s democracy.
Nope, that sort of mentality makes you someone who actively wants the breakup of the UK, apparently.

Will the Met swing into action and arrest the PM for the unlawful act?
Or was he just an unwitting accomplice to the crime?
Perhaps it’s too close to home, and they’ll delegate it to the Liverplod and nothing will happen.
They could also get Cummings for assisting an offender.

bad day to bury good news?

Just news but it hopefully it puts to bed accusations against the leave campaign and those behind it in the same way this mornings rulings have put to bed any doubts that our PM is a lying twat who unlawfully prorogued Parliament.

I don't see how it can do. The Leave campaign broke the law. What today's decision establishes is that there is no prospect of a criminal conviction against either Leave EU or Aaron Banks, just as the announcement last month establishes that despite the breaches of Electoral law for which the leave campaign was fined a record sum, there was no prospect of a conviction against any of the individuals involved. Doesn't mean that the law wasn't broken.
