Get with it.
There's no such thing as a Remainer any more. We've left.

We probably need a new name. "People who value a healthy economy above intangible bullshit" maybe? Or a catchy word that means that.

I like the term realist.

Those accepting we have left via a with-drawl agreement where nothing as yet has changed. But acknowledging the situation is about to unravel and to deal with it accordingly we will have to contemplate rejoining to regain parity with other EU members or as a minimum breaking the vast majority of commitments made by leavers and adopting a vassal state / EU colony model.

Did anyone see Johnsons speech at Greenwich. Was it yesterday? Now, I have been pretty clear in my hatred for the man on here but I have to say I almost enjoyed the rhetoric of some of his speech. He held me until he started a carefully chosen comparison between the UK and EU's environmental, food standards and stuff like that but for the first 15 minutes I quite enjoyed imagining this unleashed UK, leading the world in free trade etc etc.

Junker in contrast was pretty dull but predictable and clear on where the EU starting position is - free trade agreement + comprehensive deal on services as long as two very minor points are met (he,he). Johnson of course started from 100 miles from that - no sharing of standards etc etc. The battle lines are drawn and lets watch as they inch together over the next few months. Fishing will be interesting.

For the UK Brexit is theatre full of spectacle and grand vision. For the EU it is sitting in a lawyers office with your legal team.

That election win has 'liberated' the UK in it's negotiations as the EU reps now know they have to deal directly with a Governing Party with a large majority. I doubt EU businesses are too happy with them continuing to play "billy big bollocks" when they know and want an FTA with the UK. European business doesn't give a shit about the political side.
This is a point that still seems to be missed by a lot of Remainers on here

Instead of taking some confidence on behalf of the UK - they still just want to big up the EU and wish for difficulties for the UK - why? I assume because they have not yet achieved full realisation that we are in fact Leaving and they are hoping still for some BRINO outcome.

Well fucking said dids. Getting on my tits now with all his 'man up' or 'get behind Britain bollocks.
Just imagine how people feel when they see UK citizens seemingly preferring to wish for outcomes that are bad for the UK simply so they can score a cheap point on a football forum - now that really should get on your tits - it certainly gets on mine.

Thankfully it is only some of the Remainers

I think we've found their new name; "BRINO's".

I would not mind but all the predictions have not come true and the uk is doing alright.

there is more to worry about in the world than fucking brexit. City not clicking, var , it’s always bloody raining, Coronavirus, homelessness , nhs, a lack of police force , terrorists , trump.

but no the thing that’s really keeps people awake at night and is terrifying people up and down the land is wait for it.....

NON -TARIFF BARRIERS TO TRADE BETWEEN COUNTRIES.

Apologies for posting that if people are offended by those words.

Be thankful we are now 4 days past planes being grounded and/or falling from the sky as they where to be refused permission to land.

Nothing wrong with grand vision and ambition but it’s got to be accompanied by competence and implementation. I still think he and his cabinet lack that. But let’s see.

Just a thought after reading the last few pages on here - wouldn’t it be an idea to wait a while before claiming success/failure?
4 days seems quite a small sample size to me.

I'm not arguing with you on that, but by your own writings on this you see there as being a slight on English pride. You your self compare it with Irish or Scottish Nationalism.
Would you not be better referring to your position as British nationalism (I know that is not a thing) as the interests you are preserving are not purely English. The main goal is UK out of the EU.

I'm not trying to be argumentative for the sake of it either mcfc1632. As I said, I don't see a problem with your stand on this, I just genuinely don't equate what you describe to nationalism in the same way it manifests itself in the other individual states of the union.
I don't think that we have a problem with each others stands

I think our exchange this time started with a response from you to a post that I was making to others?

So most of the comments that I make are aimed at the general way some Remainers play games on here to seek to demean Leavers - and not towards yourself. It is happening a lot less - in 2016/2017 it was gratuitous.

You are right - the main goal is to get the UK out of the EU - the UK because that is the entity that is the member. What I reject is that the driver for this goal is nationalism (of any branding) - it is the unwillingness to continue on the EU's remorseless journey towards federalism. With all this passion for a EU flag, anthem, army etc. - there is an argument that it is an unwillingness to embrace being part of EU (not European) nationalism.

On this forum it is clear to me that the reference to nationalism is something done by Remainers for negative/distracting reasons.

I have referred/compared the absence of English nationalism to that of established Scottish and Irish nationalism because it has been brought up by Irish and Scottish posters. There is an Irish poster that used to be on these threads that was clearly still hung up on British behaviours of many years ago and a couple of Scottish ones with a similar disposition.

FWIW I always find your posts balanced and my points were/are not aimed at you
