I doubt it. Brexit is a religion to many. Reminds me of the Trump supporters who’d rather die than have free health care because it sounds a bit socialist.

But how many are that committed? In 7 months brexit will be done (assuming there is no fudge extension), what will we have left of Brexit support, my guess assuming no deal is the outcome is:-

40% of brexit voters will admit they were wrong to do so.
40% are simpletons who will deny they ever thought it was a good idea and voted leave / tory on that basis and will go back to watching WWE.
20% will still think its a good idea in principle but the EU made it in to a disaster.

We have some on here who I have pencilled into category 3 for now.

The problem will be that as the rest of the world leaves us behind it will be increasingly difficult to sell that particular lie.

Mr. Starmer is going to have a field day pointing out the folly of this Government.

True but what to propose to get us out of the mess will be his big challenge. No doubt there will be a big rejoin movement that will form but even I would acknowledge there is a level of national humiliation in that the public might not stomach. A 2nd deal on a Brino basis may be the inevitable half measure that labour campaign on at the next election.

Who expected the EU to come to any sort of deal that didn't involve UK surrender on substantial items? I didnt.
Best to be away from it before the Eurozone goes bang.

We could apply to join a free trade zone from Iceland to the Russian border and say that's what Johnson and Gove promised all along.

Meanwhile in Brexit Boostland, "The UK has been trying to ‘roll over’ the trade deal it already had with Japan by virtue of its EU membership, which came into force in February last year, but has struggled due to Japan’s reluctance. If they had rolled it over, they would have been giving the UK additional access to Japan, on top of all it has already granted, for free. This would have caused problems domestically. Now, in the negotiation of a deal with the UK, Japan will be looking to limit further liberalisation of its agriculture sector.”

Brexit is a religion?

I'd say remaining most definitely is for a few on here.

Some crazy stuff in there. He quotes a load of ideological reasons for not being able to accept EU proposals such as:

i.e. ideologically we want to be a free state with regard to fishing. Then says:

That is what you are doing you muppet.

As we know this is not going to get anywhere - never was. So that leaves us with no deal as being potential government policy - the best they can come up with. An option that had around 20% public support when the prospect of a 2nd referendum was around (and before we had a virus to deal with).

As I have said before, no deal is untenable. If Johnson does it he will be forced to resign within a year. There is no way the public will stand for the mess it will create. They must know that and therefore something will have to give but the pressure is clearly on the UK more than the EU. The resolve is on both sides and we have far more to lose, as has always been the case.
Proper desperate stuff

Why are you so rigid in your thinking?

Bring an independent sovereign nation is normal

Wanting to shoehorn 30 of those into a single federal superstate is ideology

You have said Johnson must resign several times - so you must really think that - no matter how daft it comes across.

Anyway - as one of the 20% you are sure making me feel good

According to the BBC, David Frost is said to be disappointed with the EU not wanting to budge on certain aspects of the negotiations, and that he’s not particularly optimistic that there will even be a trade deal with the EU.

Seems like a professional and balanced statement

Sets out well the reasonableness of the UK positions and fully exposes that the difficulties are down to EU intransigence

Good to have professionals acting for us - even if 4 years too late.

Wait so we are not getting a deal and its all the EU's fault. Shit.

They want us to agree to what Johnson signed up to in the Political declaration - the evil bastards expecting Johnsons word to be his bond

UK Brexit Negotiator David Frost on latest talks with the EU - “I regret... that we made very little progress towards agreement on the most significant outstanding issues between us".

UK negotiator David Frost - “The major obstacle to this is the EU’s insistence on including a set of novel and unbalanced proposals on the so-called “level playing field” which would bind this country to EU law or standards, or determine our domestic legal regimes".

Not had to dig this out for a few months, but your regular reminder that Boris Johnson signed up to level playing field commitments with the EU in the political declaration

I seem to remember the only way Johnson got it past the ERG in parliament was by being fairly up front about not sticking to the terms of the declaration which were not actually as far away from Mays deal as some might think.

They won. Truth, honour and reputation are secondary. Lies, dishonour and perfidy are now the badges of independent sovereign nations - and they call it patriotism.

Its funny when its pointed out that we are refusing to adhere to an agreement we have already made and are blaming it on the EU that the Leavers have no comeback 4 hours later.

Can you imagine prospective trading partners around the world facing post pandemic economic disasters looking at this and having to judge whether a Johnson led UK is to be trusted when they approach them to open trade talks? The UK's reputation is in tatters. Nobody needs us right now and going forward they will only need partners who's word they can trust.
