Tory MPs are trumpeting our newly announced import tariffs as if they are not creating tariffs and red tape to imports from the EU.

Remember Unilever?
The Headquarters going to the Netherlands?
It's collapsing the Dutch structure and moving to the UK.

I think the key message is half way down the article:
'Unilever said the new plan will not change its operations, locations, activities or staffing in Britain or the Netherlands.'
This is simply a simplification of an unwealdy corporate structure. Not bad news but little in there that is great news.

Yes I know what it said, and it's saying exactly what Brexit voters have said on here
years ago, when people we screaming about it moving to Holland, it isn't. So, if the UK is, by
some accounts entering shit street by leaving, it seems that some jobs are staying here,
and some are lost over there.
Which means, once again, similar to Nissan, they were spouting claptrap.

In this case it would seem they were. We will all know soon enough anyway. Although they might try to it will be hard to hide some outcomes of a no deal brexit. If we get a decent deal then hopefully the worst outcomes can be avoided and we can concentrate on recovery from Covid.

I see Barmier is losing the plot.
Amongst other things, apparantly its OK for the EU to offer the UK and Canada different trade deals but not for the UK to offer different things to others (Japan and the US).
I think I'll start calling him Violet, as in Violet Elizabeth Bott of "I'll scweam and scweam and scweam" fame.

What are you on about?

Bullshit coming face to face with hard reality.

Pretty much. For all our bluster we have yet to make any significant investment on customs or border controls outside of the Single Market. France and Netherlands have so it leaves us exposed and means we have to ask other countries not to implement legal checks etc on their side of the border, otherwise food supply lines will come to a halt. We can waive our requirements but we can’t make other countries do the same.

We asked for ‘accelerated talks’ in response to Barnier saying October is the real deadline. Fact is we can’t wait until then and given talks have stalled, uncomfortable decisions now have to be made.
