You fellas are priceless

The trend is a the EU consistently moving down/away from their previously held positions - but you are so desperate to dress it up....

RTE reports...

Barnier said there was acceptance that the EU could take retaliatory measures against the UK if it diverged from EU standards but that it would not be "autonomous", in other words, before taking action there wd need to be some dialogue with the UK

"It's the operationalisation of that principle that is now under discussion," acc to source. The EU see this is progress as for a long time the UK refused to accept that if they diverged the EU had a right to do something, says the source.

As I said the other day, we concede the principle, now we haggle over the price where there will be movement and compromise by both sides.

There is a lot of deliberate guff in the UK press about the EU position because if Johnson is going to sell any deal domestically, he needs a ‘GB victory’. It’s the stunt we pulled within the WA where we ‘defeated’ the EU by *checks notes* giving them NI.

Our ‘sell’ of the deal when it comes, because their will be a deal either this year or the next, will be that GB (sans NI) will be ‘free to lead the world in trade with our like minded brethren’ (preferably English speaking, white and not European). We may even declare it a national holiday and call it ‘Independence Day’.

Then as with the WA, reality will set in, and we will go back to grumbling about the EU and why is it so difficult these days to transact business with the continent and have you seen the forms we have to fill in?

Vic has spoken to them all on the phone, they have confirmed they are fleeing from the nasty French to reach Blighty and they are also very fond of Labour policies.

Reports that they just wanted him off the phone as they were cold and tired are just rumours:-)

Or maybe just drowning and about to perish.

More from RTE. Apparently British fish should only be caught by British boats, crewed by the British and the catch processed on British soil, to avoid catching ‘Europeanism’. This position is so dumb I assume it’s a designed to be dropped as a last minute ‘concession’.

‘The latest stumbling block is a UK proposal on ownership of UK vessels. UK is proposing tighter restrictions on where fish are landed and the nationality of crews, ie the UK wants the right to regulate where fish caught in their waters would be landed.

Currently a lot of fish caught in UK waters are landed in Spain or France for processing - London proposing to repatriate that practice. UK also wanting tougher regulations on who crews the fishing boats.’

One would hope not, I know no one likes unsolicited calls. I think discouraging people from taking such a quite frankly bonkers trips should be a priority.

Maybe call barring as well:-)

Then open safe routes to ensure they can arrive without risk of death to themselves or their children.

Most people arriving by dinghy don’t have a choice which country they end up in, it’s the smugglers that decide that.

Remember you have to be physically in the UK to claim asylum here too. There’s a lot that don’t have a legal route of entry (well, domestically legal).

For a different thread really though, although it’ll be interesting to see what we agree post brexit around some of it.

Well thats the end of the British fishing industry then ..... most of the boats out of Scotland are manned by Fillipinos

Reactions: Vic
I was talking about a specific point where there is a reasonably simple solution. The divergence from standards. Bloody hell you never miss an opportunity to churn out your well worn script. Both sides have been bloody minded on this is the point. Both sides will claim is as an adequate solution. Both sides could have agreed it months ago if they hadn’t been so bloody minded. And if their is truth in what was reported that it was the EU that introduced the future proofing of standards late in the day then that was obviously another bloody minded red herring they could later drop in return for movement by U.K. I will be honest, I am just so sick of the whole bloody thing.
TBF - I only churn out that script because of the utter pelters I got from a good number of Remain posters essentially saying that the point I was making was utter bollocks and versions of the EU will never have to move etc.

There were loads of them - many totally uncalled for in their insulting wording - so please forgive me for not feeling shy at pointing out the veracity of the point. If you had received scores of abusive posts when pointing out something clearly accurate - you might also react the same

The EU have previous for making deals at the very last minute - it is their modus operandi - they will have needed to face the prospect of a no-deal to move and, at the death, and when faced with that prospect, they have (hence I remind a few of the detractors)

There is absolutely no doubt that the EU are softening their positions - and they of course would not be doing that at all if they were fully confident that the UK would fold

Simple facts

The trend is both doing that, as it was always going to be.
There were many posts saying that the UK would have to fold and the EU would not. You may not have said it - but many did.

My statement that the EU would not move until faced with the prospect of a no-deal (why would they move if they knew the EU would not walk-away?) has been proven to be totally accurate - as it was always going to be

God - you spin things so ridiculously you must be dizzy

There is a lot of deliberate guff coming From Remain posters - especially recently as they seek to reconcile themselves to how things are turning out

And - as a target policy - the problem is?

Think you need to take this up with RTE or Barnier himself.

Just in from the OECD bash via BBC.

‘How can you pull something out of bag [on a Brexit deal]?

VDL: “There is movement. That is good.... if UK wants seamless access to largest single market in the world they are welcome. But they either have to play by our rules, or theres a price of quota and tariffs...”

I knew I should've lumped on a deal yesterday at the bookies when it was better than Evens. Now it's hot favourite at 1-3 and No Deal has drifted out to 2-1.

Technically, it could be both. A deal now, even with provisional ratification would not prevent no deal conditions applying on 1st Jan, even if only for a short period.

We all know that whatever happens you will claim it's what you said all along.

It's a bit sad that you feel the need to big yourself up every time you post. No one will think any worse of you if you admit reality occasionally. You might even get some respect.
