Another winger

Re: Another winger

Everyone loves pacey wingers. Hazard was a real menace the other day.

But the fact is, speed is only as useful as the room available. Hazard looked great because he was streaking forward with the defence in full retreat, and he had space to run into.

People wonder why Navas doesn't use his pace more. He does - on the counter-attack. But it seems fairly clear to me that when you've pushed the opposition right back, and they are packed into their area, there is much less opportunity for a winger's pace to count. What makes the space again is a well-timed run, usually from the fullback on the outside, and what's much more important then is the timing of the run and the quality of the delivery.

When we play well, we really stretch teams, providing a threat from EVERYWHERE, so the opposition can't cover all the options. The only problem is that at the moment, with Fernandinho out, Yaya with a niggle, Nasri out, and Aguero injured, is that there isn't enough threat in the middle of the park...

Buying in another fast winger really isn't the solution.

Re: Another winger

If Silva converted his chances in last 2 games we would not be having this conversation. Fact is the best chances have fallen to him and as usual he struggles to even shoot let alone score.

Yes we are missing key players but we have still created enough to win both games.

If I've one criticism of Dave S it's that he doesn't score enough goals. He needs to be stronger & more clinical in front of goal.

Redmond looks a good prospect ..and he is english we were linked to him before he went to birmingham..

not good enough

Re: Another winger

It would be worth seeing what Pellegrini can do with Sinclair.
He's completely turned around Kolarov and Garcia, maybe it would be worth giving him a try in Pre-season

Agree. Pending any outgoings we shouldn't be considering anything further forward than Fernandinho. We need cover for him and every other point of concern should be the defence, and getting it to a standard capable of playing a high line high press game. Wingers, strikers (Cavani, lol), Ozil's, we don't need any of them.

If you could put Yaya with Fernandinho's engine in place of Yaya we'd immediately concede 10 less a season just because barely anyone would get past the midfield let alone defence. A proper world class centre half to partner Kompany and a right back, left back dependent on outgoings as I'd still like to see the love child of Kolarov and Clichy.

It's now much more about finding a group of players who can all play the same game. Players like Richards or Lescott will never be suited to highly technical, fast pressing football. Simply put, we need to raise the average. When we get to the point of swapping in players without hurting or needing to compromise the system as a whole, we can talk of trebles and quadruples. Whilst we're still so reliant on keeping one or two players fit for a season, forget it.

We cant rely on navas creating all the width its to predictable and he can be easily doubled up on, we are in bad need of a left winger so silva can play through the middle

Not really a priority need 2 central defenders and as a minimum another midfield player possibly two depends what happens to Javi and sick note, Dzeko is likely off i the summer so we also need a new striker and possibly a new right back if Micah cant sort himself out

Re: Another winger

We've always missed a top LW, all be it last year we was missing width down both wings and we sorted the right with navas. A left winger would be a great addition, doesn't need to play all the time would just be nice to see a partnership down the left occasionally as well as the right. Kolarov has improved a LOT this season, imagine if he had someone to build a partnership with instead of silva roaming inside and leaving him on his own? Not a dig at any player, just good to be able to use both wings.
