It looks like a red on the gif to be fair. Especially if there was intent. The arm movement seems natural even if it eems to move a little more forecefully than it should have just before contact.

That was a red all day long. Taylor was one of the worst referees I've seen all season and that's saying something with some of the bad calls we've had and it was a disgrace that a referee was giving fouls against our players nothing at all and if one of ours even looked wrongly at a West Ham player that was classed as a foul.

That thug should have been sent off, Taylor was near enough to see it and knew it was deliberate. But they will get away with it. After all it's only a Manchester City player who is in hospital!!

The difference between the two incidents is huge. Today the lad just tried (a little too forcefully) to get his arm over and past him to get himself free into space and he banged one into David's mush; Thatcher looked and targeted Mendes and purposely stuck the elbow on him in an assault.

I'm sorry, but that's just bullshit. The lad struck Silva forcefully with his elbow, from above. That's as deliberate as it gets. You don't accidentally club someone with your elbow like that, you only do that if you are trying to cause damage. You might raise an elbow into someone by accident, but not strike downwards. It's indefensible.

It doesn't to me. He appears to have his elbows lower when he runs naturally as you can see in the GIF just after he, imo, deliberately goes to do it. I've seen these types of tricks on fields from Sunday League up to the PL and he knew exactly what he was doing. You can even see the elbow go out to hit Silva.
