So come on OP, update please.

Still ongoing mate, didn't see my dad yesterday but I passed on the info you guys gave me and he had a look, I think its gone to a garage for diagnosis, it sounds like its the immobiliser I think.

Thanks for the help.

Easily solved. Get the ignition key. Sling it. Buy new car.

If the car starts it rules out starter motor and battery. It could be alternator but unlikely. Without looking at the car I would suggest it is a possible air leakage fault, throttle unit sticking or immobiliser fault. With it sounding like an intermittant fault it will be harder to diagnose. I'd start by checking the throttle unit is clean and the flap inside isn't sticking. If that's clear check any intake pipes or vacuum pipes for splits, loose fitting etc. If all that looks ok I would suggest an immobiliser fault.
Also when it ran when the auto electrician was there did it run ok or did it misfire?

don't think its misfiring mate

most immobilisers will not allow the engine to start at all. You just get the engine/starter turning over without actually 'catching'.

I have a problem with my BMW 318 compact when I'm slowing down or at a stop the revs will bounce and it will sometimes stall and also there is a lack of power sometimes. Can anyone help?

Charlie, if that isn't the air flow meter, I'll toss myself off in the big asda car park.

fair do's mate, I'll certainly let you know when you're proved right
If I'm wrong, will you watch me? ;D

no no no, I'll forgive you bro, afterall I forgave you for stealing my surname!

im a tyre technician , so dont realy know about engines but asked a guy who works along side me whos a motor guy , and he says it could possibly be somthing to do with petrol , apparently theres not enough petrol getting to the engine to keep it going ,theres possibly a hairline crack in the petrol pipe and fills the carb up when engine is not moving and theres enuff in the carb to keep it running and when engine is moving it cuts out becuase not enuff petrol is getting to the carb?

so ive been told.... lol
