Anyone been to tunisia

I used to go every year but stopped the year all those people were shot on the beach and in the Hotel, was booked but managed to get my money back and went to Fuerteventura instead, great weather and the people are lovely but I would not step foot back there ever again, I'm not surprised your missus is tripping mate...!

My boss was in the hotel where all the killing was, he’d been tunisia 6yrs on trot & loved the place but said never again after what happend

I've been some years a go. Loved it and hated it. As many have said, i will never go back.

Pro's
Great hotels/staff/food.
Cheap holiday, and great sunshine.
Most ordinary Tunisians are polite and friendly.

Con's
Anywhere other than the hotel (or linked local bars) or private beach are a no no.
You WILL be constantly harassed by street/beach sellers. They will put belts/hats/watches on you and then demand money.
Just as one lot are finished with you, the next will be waiting. It's constant and a game to them.
All hotels have very heavily armed guards which can put a downer on things.
Alcohol is very expensive if not "all inclusive".

A few words of warning. Do not accept any invitations to go to a nightclub. A few members of staff invited a group of us to go to club with them after the hotel stopped serving beer.
We were told they would get us in for free. Once inside, we were coerced into paying £20. Well i say coerced, as i refused to pay. Next thing, several Scimitars swords were pulled out. I can be a stubborn **** when i've had a few. So decided to try and do a runner with my missus. Luckily, the mini moke taxi we arrived in was still outside.
We jumped in followed by the rest of our group. In total, a dozen people were hanging on for dear life as the taxi set off. One poor lad who was only hanging on the tailgate because people had hold of his shirt got kicked and punched by the pursuing crowd. A car followed us and was trying to ram us. The poor lad hanging on the back thought he was going to die. All hell broke loose back at the hotel. All demanding if the staff were involved or victims as well.

Take some Johnnie Walker Black Label Whisky. I'm not sure if it's still relevant, but we didn't and were told we would have been paid a lot for it.
Oh and i noticed groups of men on street corners. We were told they were gay men. We were told that men are more at risk of rape than women there.
I thought this was at odds with Islam, but was told since men outnumber women, a blind eye was turned...

Have a good time!!!

I’ve been, would never go back. The men pester you relentlessly and it’s a very scruffy country, rubbish strewn everywhere

went late 80's with a girlfriend and we got pestered and followed all week, then i met what turned out to be the 2nd mr k on his holidays at the same hotel

the beaches are gorgeous,i have been on the beach where the shootings were,i would not risk it if i was you,i'd have that in my mind the whole time,i suppose it could happen anywhere though

Yes, that one. I go there frequently both with work, and taken the family twice in the past year, and one of the things people seem not to understand is that Cancun TOWN is NOT Cancun Hotel Zone. They are very different. Google Earth is your friend. If you want to go into town and wander around, you can, the bus is $1 each way, which will leave you a few bucks for a drug deal. However, half the drug deals are traps, so make sure you have a decently corrupt Mexican lawyer on speed dial if you want to play that game.

The Hotel Zone is one of the largest revenue generators in Mexico and Mexican Authorities are not about to lose it over a few dime bags. Additionally, you do know that Spring Break is about 1 month of the year, right?

I've been on that bus (fucking hot) into town and had a great time there.
I've also done a deal or two in the little jewellery arcade at the top of the strip. Me and 6 or 7 Mexicans in a little upstairs office haggling over price.
