Anyone else a bit fed up of football?

I hate writing this because I know I’ll get painted as a fickle fan. But honestly I’m from the Manchester area and I’ve supported city all my life. Never been a season ticket holder initially cos of money, and now cos of my family and living a bit further away. But have always been to 5 games a season for the last 30 years and watched all the games on sky. I’m just genuinely a bit fed up of it all. I think VAR is the main thing that’s done it, and the ridiculous amounts of money in the game just seems on another level now. I miss the days when the players genuinely wanted to play for the shirt rather than just going to the highest bidding club.. I guess Foden might be an exception but there was a time when it felt like we had half a dozen foden’s in the squad. I think I’d honestly trade the success for something a bit more authentic. Now with no fans football is just feeling a bit empty for me.

Anyone else feeling the same way or am I just being a d***?

I know what you mean, for sure. Maybe it’s also an age thing? Be interested if as many supporters in their 20s feel the same way. They probably don’t reminisce for the ‘good old days’ like some of us less young fans sometimes do.

I know how you feel. I'm a bit meh with it myself but it's hard to move away from it. I've been going for 32/33 years and want to move on, but it's probably not going to happen.
I've told myself for the last few seasons I won't watch as many games, but there I am tuning in to watch every match on TV that I'm not going to, or streaming it, and get really naffed off if I can't watch it.
And then me and the missus say we're not going to watch the other matches on Sky and BT, but end up spending the whole weekend with the matches on in the background, or find ourselves fixated on the TV in the pub if a match is on. Oh and Sky Sports News is on a lot in our house too.

I've thoroughly enjoyed cricket in the last few years though. The coverage is better, the commentary is better and I'll be getting a season ticket for Lancashire once we're able to. The World Cup last year, followed by the Ashes was marvellous, and our enjoyment of that has made us question our addiction to football further.

One day I'll be free haha...

I also know what you mean and agree...obviously not with the City angle...but its funny I was thinking about this whole thing today in the wake of this "Big Project Power" thing.
Yes it's nice to win, its nice to see good football, but surely it is about the whole package?
The game, the atmosphere, the build up, the banter, the fans, the bovril, the hassles parking, the hope of getting that ticket.
Its about the losses aswell, the good and the bad....and I think that is where City and the fans here have a benefit.
The fact that City in the very recent past have had their share of "downs". The away trip to York, the fight back up the ladder. the less glamourous side of the game that brought you all together. That was (IMO) what football is about as much as the Prem/ECL.
Some of my happiest footballing memories are of going to games as a nuetral. Brentford v Rotherham where I sat with and was welcomed by Brentford fans. They told me details of each player and bits about the club (helped by a 4-3 home win). Freezing to death almost at the old Goldstone Ground one time. All wonderful memories that seem alien almost to todays monied game.
The whole Project Big Picture at first seems to be great to support the whole of football and what makes the English game so great....yet it is really just a nasty power grab that will remove so much from our game.
Certainly does make me a little fed up with it.
Money , power, Money, power

the hope of getting that ticket.
There have been thousands of empty spaces/spares at anfield for years.

The rest of your post was pretty accurate though.... albeit ‘recent’ is 21 years ago...

What pisses me off is that the games as bent as a nine bob note.
The referees are very obviously bent. VAR, which is a great idea in principle as it could have been an effective tool to straighten out some of the bent referees, is controlled by the same bent bung takers that control the referees.
The football associations are controlled by self serving gangsters who sell our sport to the highest bidders to line their pockets.
And, on the subject of pockets. Most of the football media is in the pocket of a handful of clubs.
I hate the way that agents are allowed to control, as example, a number of goalkeepers from a variety of clubs - little wonder so many can’t help throwing the ball into their own net in the final minutes of games when the points really matter.
The football itself would be fine were it not for the very obvious cheating.
I love City but the more I learn the less I like the game.

When things get a bit more normal, I might start following a bit of local non-league so that I can at least see some honest endeavour from 22 players and the officials for a change.
Sad that it’s come to this but at least I had my fun out of it before the gambling side exploded and it became all about the money.
