Anyone else feeling a bit nervous about Mancini's signings?

I was dreading January, absolutely dreading it. It was nailed on Hughes was gonna sign David Bentley and with his prem proven bullshit (a total cop out) our links to Upson and Parker seemed toc arry a lot of weight. Now Mancini's here I'm excited and intrigued as to who he'll bring in

Put it this way, Bob has brought in Vieira on a free to do a job for 6 -18 months which means we'll be spending plenty elsewhere, Hughes would have signed Parker for £15 million or Bentley for £10 million and played him in centre mid

Yes.For example Hughes was looking at players like Lahm,Toure ....Now we are linked with so many pensioners.Viera,Corboda,Veron....

The underlined being the key word. One is coming (Vieira), one is not (Veron) and one is not allowed to leave due to Chivu's injury (Cordoba).

As for Hughes looking at players, where's the proof? Sure we were linked (there's that word again!) with them, but it never appeared anything more than that?

Not convinced about Viera but hes not costing other than wages so hes not a massive gamble.

Also gives us some cover for centre of midfield were we look lacking when Ireland is out.

The key will be his bigger signings, which we will have to wait and see. Got to admit if the 7mill reported for Veron was correct then that seemed like a ridiculous signing considering his age and past experiences in the prem.

I dont think some realise that Mancini was allowing Sven to look at his scouting networks to sign the players he did. Although some worked out better than others I would trust his judgement extremly highly. Im amazed at some of the negativity on here. Viera on a free for fuck sake! This is the guy Wenger wanted not 4 months ago for Arsenal. He is a world class player. End of.

Also as far as im aware nobody is leaving. People are making out like Viera will be our only defensive midfielder, he is here for backup and to play when required. Viera! Im amazed at some people I really am. Scholes, Giggs are older than him and they dont struggle. Viera is an incredible player and athlete and his signing has caused hissy fits. As for Vitek from Lithuania. Hows that ITK status coming along?

Whatever, the media decided Veron was a flop, just because they can't appreciate his game, they couldn't understand why as a CM he wouldn't run about much. Playing Veron in a centre midfield 2 in the Premiership is not going to be beneficial for the team but that's not Verons fault, Veron excelled at Inter, I liked him at Chelsea and I understand why Mancini went for him now.

What you have to realise is that when you look at Chelsea signing the likes of Crespo, Veron, Makelele etc... these older players brought more of a big team attitude to our squad, we wasn't trying to punch above our weight because we had players who played and won things at the highest level, and though these players are valuable you don't want to go shelling out huge fees for these players because inevitably they are not going to stay for long at the club.

Having Veron and Vieira as an option in your midfield is not a bad thing dumb-nuts especially if you are getting them for nothing or lets say under £5m combined.

You'd rather shell out £25m for Lescott, makes sense? Can't you see that these signings are short term solutions, and YES that's a good thing. You don't want to make a host of long term decisions difficult to over-turn at the beginning.

I already posted this somewhere else.. Listen, the way I see it, you should want to get those type of players..
Hughes policy wasn't good, clubs took too much money off of you, and after the spree you didn't end up with a balanced quality team, there are areas where you are weak, and areas where you are too strong so players will become unhappy on the bench, most of all, Lescott, Toure, Adebayor, Tevez etc.. All good players, only Tevez has been in and around winning squads, it's one thing to have a team hungry to prove and win stuff, but, if you can why not get the likes of Vieira and Veron to supplement that, will it make you weaker?

United should have got rid of Giggs a long time ago, right?

I think he's looking at not spending much and strictly for the short term.

Make of that what you will.....

It's just dawned on me that whilst Bobby has started fantastically, and is clearly a tactically astute coach..I've no idea what he's like at identifying signings.

IMO Hughes had a really good eye for a player (e.g Kompany, De Jong,Bellamy, Tevez etc), to the extent that I felt comfortable that he would buy well in January. His weakness being that he wasn't the best at making tactical decisions during the game.

With Bobby It's a case of fingers crossed as I've no idea..could anyone give me an idea as to any past inspired signings he's made...help me sleep a bit easier?!

(p.s I think Vieira is going to be a fantastic signing, so so far so good!)

Nervous about his signings but he has only made 1 and it's fantastic? Not Lithuanian by any chance?!
