It's number one because it's relatively cheap and readily available. It still tastes sh*te.

And the advance double-filter technology is just marketing babble. How can something that's been around for years still be called advanced?

It's not relatively cheap for the home market as its one of the most expensive instants out there which makes it even more amazing that joe public regards it so highly taking 52 % of the market share. The only reason you can bag a 200g jar for £2.15 is because I have ..pardon the pun spilled the beans and told you about Jacks otherwise you would still be paying £5 and getting proper tampered with. I can lead you to water Mr Tache but sadly I cannot make you drink. I will be sat around my campfire flame with a billy tin full of the instant and you will be as dry as a Nun's gusset because what you never considered with your fancy machines is that electricity is the first to go in a crisis plus there are no plugs on the trail .... You will be telling me next my Branston baked bean stash are all shite.

I have used a simple Bialetti coffee maker for years, its pretty basic but I like it. Not the ideal Expresso maker maybe (according to an Italian guy I know anyway) as it uses steam to push coffee into a jug above the water boiling water container rather than percolating down through the coffee grinds but I'm not fussy

I treated myself to a Nespresso Aeroccino 4 milk frother recently for Cappuccino and Lattes but really don't use it much as we have become quite used to regular coffee from the Bialetti

We have the six cup Moka and that gives us three equal measures which we pour into mugs then top up with boiling water.. then hey presto a really good cup of coffee... we think anyway
Don't think i could be arsed with a Bialetti tbh, seems like too much work. Was thinking of getting a Nespresso but don't really like the thought of using capsules. The ultimate for me would be to get a bean-to-cup machine where all you have to do is press a button and it grinds the beans and does all the work for you.

It’s number 1 because gullible fools bought into the decades long advertising campaign.

I guess it's down to personal taste. Nescafe Original doesn't do it form me.

I do use a 15 Bar pumped espresso machine at home, but I also have an Aeropress, which I use when I'm away - no electricity required. I drink instant at work. Usually Kenko Rich or Kenko Smooth, but occasionally Douwe Egberts Pure Gold, whatever is on offer (except Nescafe Original).

As I do a fair bit of travelling I also carry a stash of one cup sachets of instant just in case I get caught out.

Also, now't wrong with Branston beans, but Stockwells (Tesco) are just as good, and around a third of the price.

Love coffee...the last so called vice I couldn't give up (I'd be a monk by that stage). Interesting to hear the latest reports suggesting it's actually healthy...I get the usual 'give it up for 3 months so it's completely out of your system'. I once managed 4 days. I have a gaggia and grinder and tend to get in some local roasted coffee (there's a host of good operators in Manchester now).
The theatre of making a latte at home is part of the charm, though I do drink instant (usually decaf tbf) throughout the day simply because I like to top up, have a break with a brew (I also drink liquorice and peppermint tea - that's more to cut down on the milk consumption).
Tend not to drink strong coffee in the evening...my sleep is currently poor enough as it is. Also I believe research states if you're tired you're probably better off eating fruit to perk you back up. Saying that, I'm a sucker for grabbing a massive Costa laced with hazelnut syrup on long journeys...the only 'coffee' I'm getting here is the aroma near the machine...it's in reality a pint of warm milk with hazelnut sweetening...one of those habits.
The difference between the really good coffee shops in Manchester and the likes of the chains is night and day.

The research posted earlier suggest coffee isn't bad for your heart after all...but can it still cause palpitations? That burst of energy exciting ones ticker?

Used to have my Aeropress at work too, but found it a bit messy and looked a bit daft stood there with a contraption that looks like a penis pump. One things for sure, i'd never go back to instant. We have some in the house but it's just used when someone comes round and i don't want (or cba) giving them the good stuff. I have found that the most important thing is to get good coffee and drink it as fresh as possible.

A lot of folk are disappointed with their Aeropress, but they just use cheap ground coffee, so it's hardly surprising.

With my Aeropress, I use the freshest ground coffee I can get my hand on. I use the inverted method of brewing, where you put the plunger in first, turn it upside down, add the coffee and water, give it a quick stir, pop the filter on and wait about 45 second before inverting an plunging into a cup. No mess; no fuss.

Yep same here, get mine delivered from Pact and its about as fresh as you can get without grinding it yourself. Use the inverted method as well, just find that sometimes there's a bit of spillage when you're inverting it onto the cup. Find it makes a much better tall coffee than my Delonghi can.
