Anyone given up coffee?

Just ordered a fresh batch from Pact.com, using an Aeropress at the moment as my Delonghi machine seems to be producing nasty coffee recently, trying to blag the missus into letting me get a Sage coffee machine.

I have used a simple Bialetti coffee maker for years, its pretty basic but I like it. Not the ideal Expresso maker maybe (according to an Italian guy I know anyway) as it uses steam to push coffee into a jug above the water boiling water container rather than percolating down through the coffee grinds but I'm not fussy

I treated myself to a Nespresso Aeroccino 4 milk frother recently for Cappuccino and Lattes but really don't use it much as we have become quite used to regular coffee from the Bialetti

We have the six cup Moka and that gives us three equal measures which we pour into mugs then top up with boiling water.. then hey presto a really good cup of coffee... we think anyway

To all the naysayers I would just like to say that when the Iran crisis worsens which it will and they fail to to get "the beans" through the straights then don't come courting favour with me as you make your bed and you lie in it. Be prepared for all and every eventuality and think ahead of the game by taking ownership and making yourself proactive.

Hormuz straights.

Caffeine Stash.

That little stash is an insult to the beverage.

Instant coffee is very wrong.

Open a jar of Nescafe and inhale deeply and in all probability you will find it's the best "instant" bean that money can buy. The aroma does dissipate after a few days but as you so rightly say it is only an instant. I do use pods but they can be expensive. Costa Americano Tassimo at anything under the £4 mark for 16 pods are good to go.

If anyone is in the market for Nescafe jars then I have found the cheapest source available and the 200 grammers are usually priced at circa £4.00 to £5.00..We are paying £2.15 for 200 gram and if it kicks off in't middle east they wont stay that price for ever. You have to buy 3 at a time to achieve £2.15 and they are sourced from Jacks which is a subsidiary of Tesco. So Jacks wish to take on Aldi and Lidl's and currently have 6 stores nationwide but to be fair they are not performing well.. Imagine walking around an empty warehouse with 5 or 6 customers and no one manning a till unless you specifically beg them. You cannot check out a trolley yourself on self service as the effort is non conducive to an nice afternoon out. Aldi and Lidl whip them on price but they do have certain deals available that need bulking. The Nescafe as stated and also we get Schweppes tonic for 95p a litre which is usually sold for £1.30.. Four Holstein pils are £3.50 for 4 cans and they have regular WIGIG sales which means when it's gone it's gone. They still have the 237 electronic scales piled up in a pyramid format they had three months ago so either Rawtenstall is full of fat fookers or the bean counters have messed up big style. In my humble opinion I will generously give Jacks another 10 months or so survival time. Their Vanilla ice cream is pants and the best own brand ice cream is Gianorelli from the Lidl stable at £1.19 for 2 litres which tastes a creamy as Cornish. Dry roasted nuts own brand from Jacks are non too good either.

Does this mean Tesco main stores are not fit for purpose ? why no because if you use Tesco wisely you can absorb some really good offers. The number 1 selling Malbec in the UK is Trivento argentinian Malbec and usually sells at £8 a bottle and is very rich and high in ABV @14%. One of the nicest Malbec's we have tasted at under a tenner mark so if I was to say to you that you can now buy in at £4.50 a bottle then it would be well worthy of a sniff but you have to buy 6. Put them in your Tesco trolley and get them for £27.00 .. ...I'm drifting to hard a starboard so apologies and keep imbibing of the coffee because if it makes you grin then it has to be worth it ! A good comedian pal of mine called Bernard once said if you want a pie have one and if you want a ciggarette have one and if you want a biscuit have one but just don't eat the fooking packet. Moderation being the watchword and allow sense and sensibility to prevail..

Do not fall into the poverty trap of buying Nescafe from B and M bargains and other My Mums cheepo shit-shops as its a foreign grey import and tastes like sweepings up ! If it has a brown lid on it then leave it on the shelf and also check the writing on the back and if it's foreign then sac it. To conclude if it has a brown lid with gobbledeygook writing on the label then run for the hills because Its brewed under licence and you will piss all your hard earned away.
