Anyone know the legalities re Parking Fines

I got a ticket at the Bolton away game. Parked on the grass on the back road. We were the only ones to get one £35

Right then , this old chesnut again.
Mrs admitted she had parked at Stockport Peel centre , appealed as the system had recently changed to the one where you put in your reg which she was unable to complete , failed the appeal and i told her to ignore.
Heard nothing for 6 months .

Now we have had the demand .

What should we do ( in light of the fact she has admitted she parked there and i seem to recall a recent change in legislation )
Appreciate guidance

Ignore the fucking thing!

Prestwich Blue put the wind up me saying in a previous thread saying they must prove it was you who parked there.
I also recall reading a thread ( which i cannot find) where someone remarked the laws on unenforcable private parking has now changed and to be careful by ignoring.

Unfortunately, where fines are concerned, the person receiving the fine is supposed to pay it immediately and then if they believe the fine to be incorrect they must dispute it in the hope of getting a refund.
Not quite mate. Private operators have no powers to levy a fine. It's a penalty charge and can only be enforced if they can prove beyond doubt that you were the driver, as there is an implied contract between the driver and the land owner where the car was parked. Enforvcing it is a civil matter.

Public bodies like councils & the police do have the statutory power to levy a fine and that's issued to the owner, who has to pay. Failure to do so is a criminal offence.

Private operators will issue increasingly threatening letters and official looking demands but can't take criminal proceedings. They can go to court for recovery of the debt but rarely do. If you don't admit you were the driver and simply don't respond then they will give up.

Since a law change in November 2012 private operators have been able to chase the registered keeper, not the driver.

In the past you could ignore because the contract was with the driver and if you denied being the driver they had no power to find out who was driving.
However since a 2012. Law change private operators can now pursue the registered keeper.
Balti's link even acknowledges the new legal position.

I have been ignoring one for about 3 months. Does this law change mean they've got me bang to rights?

Anyone?

I got done for parking at Swansea away and I'm ignoring it - on the advice of the cellar a few weeks back.

They could take you to court but won't as it's not worth the hassle. (general cellar advice to me, not mine)
