Anyone travel to Ashton from the Etihad?

I have never travelled from Ashton but have done it a number of times from Ashton Moss if we travel from Edinburgh by car. There is a big park and ride available and a Premier Inn. Going to the match is rarely a problem as the trams are usually comparatively empty until Droylsden.

It is more of a issue coming back. We have only done that a few times as we usually go into the centre for a meal if staying over.

It is certainly far less hassle that driving to the ground and parking there.
Its a travelodge not premier inn btw

where does your bus park up or more importantly where does it pick up coming back ?
is it opposite the academy opposite asda ?
As close to the Asda as possible on Ashton new road, always happy to take either there, back or return. Ideally get back to a bigger bus. We had a 31 seater before Covid, usually around 24 which was break even, we had 19 on Saturday so had a taxi and a 16 seater. Kids are welcome and we have a good mix, you can get a beer on the bus and this Saturday we'll be having bacon sandwiches in the Sycamore beforehand, PM me if you need details, thanks.

BTW, it's £4 one way, £8 return and £5 for kids (£3 one way).

Iv probably walked passed your bus a 1,000 times
walked passed yesterday ,i always walk up to clayton hall tram stop to avoid the crowd
problem for me i always pay for the cheaper return tram for me n the kid at roughly £7
i'll keep it in mind though ,cheers

Anytime you need it pal, no problem, if I can get numbers above the break even point I'd reassess the price for supporters like yourself with kids, about a tenner combined hopefully. Ad I said any money left at the end of the season always gets shared out.

Don’t leave your car at the travel lodge or Sheldon Arms, notorious for break ins.

Getting away was a nightmare yesterday, trams took ages to arrive (15 and 20 min), waited for 2nd one.
Ashton New rd was painful to Droylsden then normal after.

Tram back to Ashton can sometimes be quite quick, there’s no in between.

Tried many options parking, it used to be fine around Clayton Lane, but about 3 seasons ago everyone got wind of this and it’s now a nightmare. I think more people from the south drive round the M60 and get off at Denton or Ashton now.

Tried all the back routes, main roads etc. It just gets worse.

There’s a train line that runs past the stadium, this is the answer to the long term problem, not the tram, which competes for road space.

Comparison:
Tram:
Etihad to A-U-L tram, schedule: 24 min
Sat. Wait + journey 1hour ( arrived 5:55pm)
On a good day 1 or 2 min wait + say 28 min: ~30 min.

Car:
parked at Clayton, normal 20 min walk from leaving my seat in SSL3, 25 min drive : 45 min to A-U-L

In the 70’s & 80’s it was a 9 minute walk from The Kippax to Playfair Street, jump in the car and a 20 minute drive to A-U-L to drop my uncle off and about 7-10 min max home. Home around 5:30pm, quick brew then on my bike to the newsagents at 5 to six for the Pink Final for my dad, which arrived at 6:05pm on the dot.
Then cleaned the shite and oil off my Lionel Blair (flares) corduroys and trainers before I was allowed in the living room.

Hope you find a solution pal, there are a few minibuses from Ashton and Stalybridge, I’m either in a full car or on the tram with 3 generations of F&F so can’t fit you in.

go for a couple of pints at the bars outside and wait for the crowds to piss off then jump on the tram
