Anyone want us to go out of the Europa League on Thursday?

Dont want to sound downbeat but i cant see us going through even if we put out our best team. Kiev are going to park the bus and hit us on the counter and we've shown this season we cant beat teams when they park the bus, ie Birmingham and Fulham. Id put our best team out but i can see them scoring and if they do then it is game over.

As usual, nobody thinks about the strength of the opposition. Even if we put out our strongest eleven we will NOT beat Dynamo Kiev by three clear goals. Even an honorable but unlikely 3-1 win would put us out. Our failure to get an away goal effectively means that we are already eliminated, simply because Dynamo Kiev are such a powerful team. They hammered Besiktas 4-0 in the second leg of the last round when they were already leading 4-1 from the first leg. Even the Rags would not get past them in our position. Therefore, we should rest our best players for the much more important Chelsea game. Sorry but that is the reality.

You really do come out with some odd posts.

Kiev are a poor side and they beat another side who played poorly on the night.

If we don't get through I will be genuinely disappointed.

As for wanting us to go out - I know for a fact I cannot go if the semi is on the Sunday but I still want us to get through. Winning any games breeds confidence.

Put it this way, I hope Kompany, Lescott, Silva, Tevez and Yaya are rested for the Chelsea game on sunday, they need it. In recent weeks it's become obvious that our squad can't cope with the demands of the three competitions we're playing in. Would it be able to cope if we had Bellers, Ned, Ade, Weiss and Bridge? Probably. But the fact of the matter is that we've looked dead on our feet for too long now, and with an extra 5 games on top should we go through on thursday, the only way I can see us making the champs league is if Spurs and chelsea suffer a terrible run of form til the end of the season, which is very unlikely

We're still in the FA cup and if we've got a week to prepare for the rags game and they have to play midweek in the champs league, then our chances of winning are increased. If we have to play on the thursday before a sunday game then they decrease significantly IMO. Regardless, I just can't see how we're gonna make the champs league if we stay in the europa, and in order of importance the champs league is probably first with the FA cup a close second right now with the Europa lagging behind. No qualms for me if we rest some of our players and go out on Thursday

Players playing every 3/4 days is only an issue when they playing poorly, narrow defeats on the road, slow and lacking tempo at home. If we lose on on Thyursday either with a full strenght side or a mix n match one then unfortunately I would start fearing for the worse for Sunday's game.
Look at Chelsea 1 win from 5 prior to the Copenhagen game, they had gone out the cup on pens, were playing like relegation fodder, a good performance against an average european side and they start playing with confidence and look a completely different side. They will be meeting us on the back of 4 straight wins on Sunday.
Another flat abject display with us wimpering out of Europe on Thursday but allowign a handful of players extra rest will do nothing for the teams overall confidence. A great 3/4 nil display or even a good Hamburg style win but agg defeat will at least give the squad a lift they so desperately need.
When your winning the 20 yard sprint to close down is easy, ifs only when your struggling as team that indviduals start to use physical tiredness as an excuse.

I think you have hit one of the nails on the head there, Allan.

Sure there are plenty of blues that love going on the European travels, visiting new places like Kiev etc.

However unfortunately imo we just cannot afford to have to play the extra games that the Europa requires, no-one remembers who wins this shite cup and if it in any way hampers our attempts to get into the Chumps then it can only be a bad thing.

Sure there are plenty of blues that love going on the European travels, visiting new places like Kiev etc.

However unfortunately imo we just cannot afford to have to play the extra games that the Europa requires, no-one remembers who wins this shite cup and if it in any way hampers our attempts to get into the Chumps then it can only be a bad thing.

I know where your coming from and I'm probably (like a few other fans) being a bit selfish regarding what's best for me rather than the club. Although I'm pretty sure having the squad we have, full of internationals who are use to playing lots of games fighting for 2 cups and a c/l place shouldn't be a problem.
