You got in one..kid. Cheap discs are a nightmare....good v's (avids) with quality pads (kool or Swissstop) and you'll go anywhere the biggest % of riders go with the exception of the body armour mob (the one's that are not keen on actually peddling/snide skiers).
Was thinking that would be the case, how are Tektro V's?
Im a complete noob to all this (as you can probably tell!)
The best move is to buy a shed (a mint(nos) retro raliegh on ebay would struggle to make £100) and just ride it...once your 6 month down the road you'll discover aches&pains because of ill fitting parts at that point you have the choice of sacking it ..in which case ebay the raliegh and collect 75%(£'s) of your outlay. Or...you could after discovering your size/riding style purchase a mint steel frame for yourself and build it up via seperately purchased parts...to the point where you have a mint bike. Lots of helpful sites around the www where you'll bump into helpful folk that don't like seeing beginers getting maced.
