Apology to the club

Meldrew has been remorseful right through. I assume he has never been through the court system ever.
He has owned what he did and apologised immediately and in writing to the club.
He appears to be of good character so would expect the magistrate to take all that into account.
He has not been arrogant, he thinks he has hardly offended and would be dealt reasonably. I don’t see what I would have done different if it was me in his shoes.

The judge sounds like a mouthy cock, having an advocate in a serious case might be prudent but this lad has tried his utmost to apologise for what thousands did at the Etihad and round the country that day.

I for one am disappointed in the silence from City considering this fella has been a ST holder for 20 years.

I had to turn up in Huddersfield crown court for doing a large lot over the speed limit on a deserted m62 at 9pm a few years ago i was late for a plane at Ringway.
I could have lost my licence my business as a result so I got a brief and ended up 5 points and a fine plus a solicitors bill.
Scouse bloke up at the same time as me driving through city centre recklessly at same speeds with no representation got 5 points and a fine.
No difference.

In the present climate and with the screens all asking people to stay off the pitch, no chance of the club publicly being seen to support him.

OK mate

Think you should have used legal assistance. My mate went to court and happy to take the punishment, magistrate advised to use duty solicitor so he sat with him for half hour before going in.
He said the lad started to plead his case so we'll he didn't recognize himself, yes he was guilty but walked away with a small fine and a don't want to see you again warning.
Hindsight I suppose, chin up blue.

Always get a lawyer

No comment then lawyer up.

No point grassing yourself up. It’s a game this court lark and you play by their rules.

Appeal this load of shit decision where they have clearly misidentified you for someone else.

The issue with getting a lawyer is you may get a reduced fine / banning order, but then get whacked with a hefty legal fee. The only winner (as always) is the legal eagle.

Yes they’re expensive but the whole reason they exist is to protect people ignorant in the law from overzealous judges looking to make an example.

This came following a number of high profile pitch invasion incidents so they were always looking to throw the book at someone. Going in without any legal representation is naive in the extreme as he unfortunately found out.

It’s great to see our forum rally round and show support for a fellow blue.

I’m more traumatized reading this thread than witnessing what our friend actually Meldrew did. I would definitely get some proper legal advise to understand the grounds for appeal.

Oh, and if anyone does a GoFundMe for Meldrew, I’m in.

Clearly gutted for the OP.

4 year ban for a moment of madness in such an emotional moment is crazy.

In England I’ve had my house and Business broken into, despite finding fingerprints on both occasions and identifying the different individuals, no prosecution occurred.

I had my car stolen and this is amazing. After it being released from the compound I could hear a online ringing. The forensic team had missed a mobile phone in the back of the car despite calling me to ask if the pair of shoes in the car were mine.

I’ve been working in a 7-Eleven and had repeated trouble with one guy hanging so round in his truck. He’d be parked up for 90 or more using the wifi.

I’d politely ask him to leave and yet he kept coming back. After numerous occasions of this I explained that next time he was loitering on our lot I’d call the RCMP. Which I did.

The RCMP showed up and he left. Only to come back an hour later, dash round the store throwing goods on the counter.

Thr guy was in a frenzy so waited for him to get it out of his syste, when I asked him to pay he went into a tirade of verbal abuse so I got my cell phone out to call 911 and he reached across punched me and knocked the phone out of my hand, then ran out of the door.

I have CCTV footage, his licence plate, also other identifiers.

That happened 14 months ago and I have heard nothing back about this assault

Is the gofundme for his sky sports subscription for the next 4 years?
:)

At least 40 posters on here gave you good advice which was to get a solicitor. Why are you in shock? You must be blindly arrogant to think it could be talked away or incredibly naive. You read the posts telling you what to do
Don’t be such a cock. The OP has been remorseful from the off, he has just been hit with a 4 year banning order from City for doing what thousands of others did, he may have been misguided but not once on here has he shown arrogance. Talk about kicking a man when he is down

Sorry mate but I found your second paragraph the most Scouse point I’ve read on here since yesterday. The ban is very harsh but it’s not the Club’s role to endorse breaking the law.

FWIW On another thread (yesterday) I read somebody complaining that they’d phoned up City to buy a season card in the wrong month and another Blue outraged that City hadn’t renewed a season card they weren’t paying for.

Definitely the club can't be seen to support the lad invading the pitch I've no complaints about that, my beef would be with the sentence and the magistrates summing up bollocks like people at the game were distressed( how would they know probably never seen the inside of a football ground) I for one never even knew it had happened how can they speak for me,as for people watching on the telly distressed do me a favour. Sadly this lad is the fall guy for worse behaviour by others and that shouldn't be how the law works.

I agree mate. A 3 match ban would have been more appropriate.

I see Sly sports website has thrown this in with their transfer news…gutted for you Meldrew, worse timing than one of my golf shots, lots of good legal advice on here for you pal, but the best advice I can give you is it’s time to move on, you’ve had your punishment, your 30 minutes of fame, I’m sure one day you will laugh at all this (might be a while) but like anything in life you will adjust, you’ve just lived through a pandemic watching City on tv so you can do it, throw yourself into something you’ve always wanted to do, let the dust settle and be with family & friends

Absolutely ridiculous what's happened. As others have said you've been remorseful, didn't cause trouble on the pitch and just enjoyed a special moment.

Ridiculous how people get treated like this. As others have said thousands went on the pitch that day.

Hope you appeal.

The bit about causing distress to those watching at home as well?! Ridiculous.
Ambulance chasing legal firms run by friends of the prosecutor are actively seeking those from that long list of those suffering alarm and distress for Compo claims.
I declined their services as the only alarm and distress l suffered was when Villa scored.

Legal shitehawk is the correct term but it doesn't rhyme.
