Applauding opposition goals at Home

I remember when Arsenal played us of the park winning 5-1 at Maine road in the 90's. Thousands of blues stayed till they end and clapped Arsenal off the pitch.

In those days (kinky excepted) we we just a bunch of journeymen heavy plodders dreaming of watching an exciting team.

These days we have an exciting team playing some great football, but at full time, often the stadium is halfine empty.

We are far too expectant (collectively) nowadays...

I remember the Arse tearing us up, 2004-2005-ish, and Thierry Henry getting a round of applause from the Block 110 / 111 corner when he went to take a corner late in the game.

Think I might have applauded Andy May's penalty to make it 9-1 for City v Huddersfield (if I'd been there)

Paddy V was very complementary about City fans after that match

Ronaldinho was given a standing ovation by the Real Madrid fans when Barca beat them 3-0 back in 2005. I think sometimes you just have to admire what's in front of you, regardless of who's doing it or who they're playing for. My initial reaction to the Falcao goal was "FFS" but quickly you realise what you've just seen and you have to enjoy/admire it.

If you 'enjoyed' it in anyway shape or form, then you're a bit of a weirdo tbh.

I applauded Peter Shilton for Derby at Maine Road when he came off at full time. They beat us 1-0 and he was just unbeatable that day. I also applauded Beckham when I took my son (very begrudgingly) to O.T for his birthday for a game against Sunderland. I've always hated Becks but he was brilliant and never stopped trying. I don't think I could applaud a goal against us though unless it was an ex blue scoring a consolation after a hammering :-)

I applauded Patrick Roberts' goal against us for Celtic in the group stages. Mainly because he's one of ours (and I got confused) but also because it was a great goal.

One City goal I vividly remember being clapped was the Goat's against Gillingham towards the end of that wonderful promotion season under Keegan, when Ali B backheeled it to him to volley in from the edge of the box. I think that underlined how well regarded our football was that season.
