"Are Barcelona the best team ever?"

This Barca team would take the Brazil of 1970 or any other era apart. Too fast for the strolling Brazilians.

Milan 1989 with most of the Italian side plus the three flying Dutchmen were a great side too but not like this Barca.

The team you are talking about are not even clear leaders of La Liga. You are claiming that the best team ever is only as good as a stuttering Real Madrid.

I doubt Messi would be given the freedom of the pitch against the likes of Baresi, Maldini, Tassotti, Costacurta and others. I also doubt the likes of Puyol and Pique would cope with Marco Van Basten.

Statistically, this is one of the best Real Madrid sides ever, with an average of 2.6 points per game, or 85% of available points. The best ever in Spain was 86.5% of available points. They've won 12 straight games. If that's "stuttering" then christ.

Best team ever..ffs. Despite popular belief football started more than 10 years ago.

I am 30 years old, Barca are the best team I have seen in my lifetime and by a long way! I cant comment on how they compare to teams like the 1970 Brazil team because I wasnt alive!

Would put them on a par with the late 70s/early 80s Liverpool side.

Don't think they would have lived with the Brazil 1982 World Cup team.

Truly outstanding, the reason I fell in love with football, along with City, obviously.

How they failed to win the World Cup is beyond me. Although, I'm told the format was a little different than now?

Their defence is good enough for you to say that they're the best team you've ever seen?

Mate what do you mean a stuttering Madrid?? This is a phenomenal Madrid team also, have a look at the league table and tell me there is a single team in the Prem that would kill for either teams record this season. Every team in the Premier League has played more games and won less points.

Current Spanish table:

1 Real Madrid 30 25 2 3 83 26 77
2 Barcelona 30 24 5 1 75 19 77
3 Valencia 30 16 8 6 48 32 56
4 Mallorca 30 14 6 10 46 34 48

Last years final table:

1 Barcelona (C) 38 27 6 5 105 35 +70 87
2 Real Madrid 38 25 3 10 83 52 +31 78
3 Sevilla 38 21 7 10 54 39 +15 70
4 Atlético Madrid 38 20 7 11 80 57 +23 67

If anything both Madrid and Barca will end up with more points this season than Braca last season.

Barca may not be the best team ever but you can not use how close Madrid are to them in la Liga as a point to prove that.

Why debate the defence when you can't get the ball off them to even test it :-)

Barcelona are definitely the best team i've seen in my lifetime. Though i'm only 26, so that opinion only carries so much weight.

City are the best team in the land and all the world. Everyone knows that.

No where near, yet, Milan '89, Brazil '70 & Real Madrid '60 to name a few but they're up there!

The Real Madrid team of the 60's must be in the mix for that accolade.
Special mention must go to Glasgow Celtic's team of the late 60's.
They were all born within a 30-mile radius of Parkhead. Celtic won every competition they entered that season: the Scottish League Championship, the Scottish Cup, the Scottish League Cup, the European Cup and the Glasgow Cup. Celtic also reached the 1970 European Cup Final, but were beaten by Feyenoord 2-1.
Can you imagine how dominant they could have been if they'd like the foreign teams of the time had 3 or 4 of the best players from outside Scotland playing for them.
Put Charlton Banks & Alan Ball in that team & they would have won far more Euro cups.
