Are expensive headphones REALLY worth it?

I've got loads of headphones. I have open-back Grado SR-80 which I use at home (and I've got on at the moment). They're brilliant and even with my poor hearing I can tell the difference between them and a cheaper pair.

I've got the wired and Bluetooth AKG Y50 headphones and both are very decent (the Bluetooth are better though) but I recently managed to get a pair of Bose 700 Noise Cancelling headphones for £170 (RRP £350) and they are phenomenal. Like the Grados, I can hear every detail of the music, plus they cut out the noise. Flying to the USA in a couple of days so they're going to get the ultimate test on the plane, where I've never really been able to listen properly due to engine noise.
Pop in for a pint mate. I think it's your round ; )

So I'm after some sony wh-1000xm4 headphones, but they are £250. My issue is i already have some decent highly rated headphones that cost around £60. My primary use for them is watching films and want as good as sound quality and bass as possible, but will the sonys really be that much better than my £60 ones?
get some Bose, you wont regret it.

Just bought some. Waiting for them to drop in price. They did. £219 now

Step daughter has some Beats that were upwards of £400. I have some Jabra Elite that were £120. There is no difference. None. Same with her new AirPods. Infact id say they are inferior to the jabra’s

Exactly the same mate. I talked myself out of buying them, then saw them drop to £219 on amazon so I pulled the trigger, I guess I'll get my answer to my original question when they arrive.

Just bought the wife some XM4's on Amazon, if you go to warehouse and look at nearly new, description says new with damaged packaging, works out at £172 with the warehouse 20% off. I have the earbud versions and they are phenomenal sounding to be fair, I've had some real shit headphones and a few decent pairs but really like these.

Beats are overpriced, they're average imo. But with headphones you'll find many different opinions.
I thought my JBL 600s were very good until I got my Bose noise cancelling. Was like night and day.

I've no doubt though that someone will tell me Bose are shit :-)
