Are Labour a total shambles now as an opposition?

At a time of Brexit chaos, a divided government, PM leaving before the next election, rising knife crime, rising homelessness, increased racism, NHS crisis, and yet Labour still cannot command a decent lead in the polls. Corbyn is at his lowest rating since 2017 and Labour are about a point ahead. Surely any decent opposition would be soaring in the poles by now?

I think it’s only fair to say politics is in a mess, as a centre right by nature country and with brexit dividing the country it is hard for anyone to take an obvious position. Throw in austerity, the environment, social care and a lack of money available it would be impossible to put together a coherent strategy to make significant gains.

Obviously Corbyn being a **** surrounded by Abbott and Darth Marxist doesn’t help. I cannot see anything but coalitions for quite some time.

I just don’t see what Labour’s strategy is. They seem happy to sit back and see what happens. They want an election but with the polls being so close it’s highly unlikely they’ll win never mind get a majority. In terms of Brexit they just seem happy to fudge it waiting for an election or people’s vote but not really nailing their colours to their mast.

The standard question: “Why isn’t Labour 20 points ahead of this disasterous Tory government?” But rarely asked: "Why isn't remain 20 points ahead of this disastrous Brexit project?" Because the two statistics are linked. The Tories have an artificially high floor because leave voters trust them most to deliver Brexit.

And that's why Labour won't come out all guns blazing for a second referendum, for now. If I was a hard core leaver I wouldn't vote Labour, because I suspect they might go for a second referendum and I would be right, and that's reflected in the polls.

Well the Tories (cabinet) are seemingly flying the second referendum kite now, so Corbyn will have to stop sitting on his hands with regards to it soon.

Corbyn’s cunning plan is to be invisible while the Tories supposedly tear themselves apart. If we crash out of Europe with no deal and the country goes tits up, it might just work. I would guess it’s a 1% chance of that happening, but that’s something for the Brexit thread.

You're right, wouldn't surprise me if he moved a no confidence vote early next week, despite the fact he knows it'll not carry.
