Are people thicker these days?

It is genuinely concerning that the idols for kids nowadays are the likes of Kim Kardashian etc who are nothing more than talentless pricks who have totally hit the jackpot of social media with millions sat waiting to lap it all up.

Had some builders in recently and without a word of a lie, one of the young lads with them couldn't tell the time using an analogue watch. Ridiculous for a 20yr old lad.

People who are famous for nothing are nothing new.

People have always been thick, it's just that you are exposed to them more these days.
Pretty much. In the past, podiums were achieved by merit; nowadays, with social media, any idiot can gain a platform and be heard.

Take that Paul Joseph Watson guy: he's just someone with a video camera, a map, video-editing capabilities and a chip on his shoulder; he has no qualifications in the subjects he talks about and 15 years ago would just be another conspiracy theorist ranting from a soapbox. Yet today he has millions of followers and a media platform. But then, you could argue that being tech and social media savvy is a sign of intelligence of some kind.

I think what we have lost in general is our critical faculties; people are too ready to believe something without fact-checking, or are too swayed by subjectivity rather than looking at things objectively.

Just read that Fast and Furious 9 has had the biggest opening weekend of all time, beating Star wars. Is this, along with Mrs. Browns Boys getting best comedy of the 21st century, proof if proof be needed that a nuclear war is probably a good option to thin out the numbers a bit?
I know TV and the media like to dumb people down, but it genuinely feels like a lot of people these days are borderline simple. Mrs Browns Boys for fucks sake!

I started to watch Horizon last night and for the 2nd consecutive episode, had to turn it off after 10 minutes. It was like a Janet and John early years Horizon book for 7 year olds. I remember when the program used to have deep and interesting content. Nowadays it's a step up from Balamory.

And this is also true, I promise...

I did some shopping at a Tesco two or three years back and amongst other things, put a potato on the conveyer belt. The kid on the till picked it up, looked puzzled and asked me what it was. He genuinely did not know it was a potato. There was nothing odd about it, it was simply a normal Maris Piper spud suitable for baking, and he didn't know what it was. Unbelievable.

One spud! Was business quiet?
