Are we a out and out striker short from being the squad we all want?

Or, if we win the treble without a striker and we sign Haaland and fail to win the tree next year, did we need a striker at all.

Whilst I agree, if we had a Haaland or Kane they would score bucket loads from the chances we create.

But, a change of system and style could lead to those chances drying up. Let’s not forget we’ve put 4 past Liverpool this season.

Not just a striker needed, I'd also argue a left back and creative central midfielder are required. Can't see it happening this summer unfortunately though, maybe just a striker will arrive, well it better fucking had anyway

Knowing Pep likes smaller squads it wouldn't surprise me if we don't buy a LB. I can see us carrying on with Cancelo, Zinny, Walker and Ake (and Stones at RB a pinch) unless someone really great comes up at a decent price.

Completely agree. I work on the basis of two players for every position:

Ederson/Steffen

Walker/Cancelo
Dias/Stones
Ake/Laporte
Zinchenko/new LB

Rodri/New DM
Gundogan/Bernardo
De Bruyne/Grealish

Foden/Jesus
Alvarez/Haaland?
Sterling/Mahrez

Obviously the pairings aren't set in stone and we are far more flexible but you get the idea.

I think if Sterling goes then we look at Palmer coming in. He hasn't quite played enough to be considered established but I think this will come in time. Such a shame about his injury.
Yeah spot on that.

Those three signings this Summer would be great!

to be fair, liverpool dont really play with an 'out and out striker'. (i suppose you could make the case for firmino)

But they have 4/5 players in Salah, Mane, Jota, Diaz and Firmino who can all play there and do a job.

I think that there is something in this. Whilst I think it's clear we need a striking option, in most games we get by perfectly fine without one. Having a striker may mean that we'd convert those chances at Palace and Southampton thus turning draws into wins, but we will have to adjust our playing style slightly. This adjustment can lead to one or two bumps in the road early on in a new season. It just feels a bit too simplistic to say that if we sign a striker then we suddenly blitz everyone in sight. Nevertheless, we do need one to kick us on.

It would lead to an adaptation of our approach play as well as changes to Haaland’s game and that in itself would not be a easy transition. The transition period could be as long as most of next season, so maybe the thought should be how amazing it would be if we match this season despite going through the bedding-in period.

Disagree. Most of the time the “false” 9 plays as a striker but unfortunately they’re understandably just not very good at it. Hence Foden barely having a kick against Palace. We’ll still dominate games with a top striker. To be honest we’d still dominate possession against most Prem teams if we went down to 10 men.

surely people see that putting a striker on the pitch will inherently mean there is one less midfielder and therefore less chances will be created? surely it's debatable that overall goals scored might not really change? I too get frustrated at spurned chances but i am very happy that we create so many. Anyway, i suspect we will revert to a striker next season.
