Are we being ruined by to many mercenaries?

Long-time lurker, felt the need to join after seeing this topic.

In answer to the OP: Yes, we are being ruined by mercenaries. As much as I hate to say it, it's going to take more than a massive paycheque at the end of each week to get most of these boys playing (Balo-fucking-telli, Yaya, Kolarov) and at the moment we don't have that much else to offer. That's why I think we should put all this Summer's effort into securing a new top class manager (forget Mourinho, like) and leave the squad untouched as much as we can.

Money will only serve you as well as you allow it.

spot on. the days have gone when playing for the shirt ment something and knowing what it ment to the fans to win a derby. half these players are only here for the money?? but is that there fault??

In answer to your question, A BIG FAT YES.I want to see players play for the shirt and the club (SWP, MRichards) players with blue blood and blue hearts.

We just don't buy the right kind of mercenaries!
Our scouting looks like it's done by youtube compilations rather than assessing how the player will fit into a very much different league playing fast, presssing football.
We also don't seem to buy players with hunger - something to prove. There's been many a player from teams we've played from eastern europe that look like they would cope with the pace and would have fight and commitment with some skill thrown in.
We just look pedestrian - some players not possessing speed and others not prepared to move and close down. No matter how huge the reputations of players at Munure, Barca, and no matter how good they think they are, they still work their guts out whether in possession or not.
On the rare occaision we do get a result and show some pride and determination -- we almost treat it as an excuse to try and coast in the next game - absolutely no consistency of performance.

Preparing for being out of the cup and a 6th in the league finish - anything else will be a very unexpected bonus after last nights non-showing and the loss of Tevez.
