Are We Desperate to be Miserable?

Most of Off Topic seems to be doom and gloom. Posters seem to revel in being miserable. Why ?
I am in Noth Wales on the coast, a young woman took over a failing beachfront cafe. She did it up and now one part is a cafe the other for exercise classes. She employs at least 10 people. The beer she sells is brewed locally employing ?
A Pizza van, complete with wood fired oven comes twice a week. It employs 6 people. (It goes elsewhere on other days)
The village pub was closed, the locals re opened it, it brings work to 10 people at least. Again the beer is brewed locally including 4 barrels from a bloke 2 doors away who has set up his own micro brewery. As a community project they are now growing their own hops to use in his beer and he wants to expand.
Everything about this place is vibrant with a will to succeed but at the same time be friendly, local and helpful to others.
No one here seems to moan about how shit life is, how its unfair, nobody understands etc etc.
So, can everybody stop being so miserable, please.
All well and good, but I've just been charged 30p for a tesco fucking bag the cheeky cunts, world's going down hill:)

Great post Blue!
Sounds like people have got off their arses and made things happen as opposed to wanting everything on a plate then it's all doom and gloom when they don't get it. You reap what you sow in this world in the vast majority of instances. Yep the government and our politicians are totally useless - but we already know that. God helps those who help themselves...

Maybe it's something to do with the fact that generally speaking, sentient organisms have a drive towards progress/higher value.
(Bear in mind, this could simply rest at securing enough for ongoing survival - so not necessarily rampant high-scale progress).

We seek/head towards value. And by consequence, move away from where we currently are. Meaning that where we are must be in some way, 'not good enough' - and also that therefore, life is then really about escaping from a permanent state of suffering.

As humans, we have great capacity to reflect...but also to ruminate on what's not perfect/missed value/future consequences of such 'failures'. Hence, ongoing misery.

If you're constantly taking action towards 'better' then it may go a long way towards at least distracting, but probably also assuaging this innate tendency to worry about being in stasis and getting left behind. (While the rest if the universe apparently progresses, - making our static state of current suffering even more pronounced.)

On a side note, I suspect this may be at the root of why people do so much DIY refreshing when things aren't in disrepair. Needing something to do with their time to feel like they are 'progressing'.
