Their is a mature answer to this and there is a practical answer.I am not just keeping cash because I think the government is evil I keep it because it's all I use, what astounds me is that people think that the two forms of paying can't go hand in hand.
There is a good reason why the use of cash goes up when people become unsure of the economy, hoarding is another thing entirely it only makes sense if you're wealthy enough to do that type of thing.
A matrasse stuffed with gold sovereigns sounds lovely though.

Digital exclusion is now permeating into society and it affects those with least in terms of monetary accsesabality and age related indecision. My aunt is in her 80s and does not get technology we are mostly au fait with. She is coming to mine next wednesday so i can sort some stuff for her that can only be done online. My auntie has never been on line in her life. She likes to use cash as i do because using cards always seems like credit to me.
In my local i have a bar tab, i pay at the end of the night. people though pay for every drink they buy on card which costs the bar money, about 1/4% of purchase, but i would rather my landlord profit than some banking ****.
The practical answer is stop using cards and when you shop insist on paying cash. i always insist on paying cash at the supermarket and i refuse point blank to use those machines that self checkout. i have walked out of numerous shops when they insisted i use them and i told them to get fucked. Reason being to many older people there only chat that day might be with the checkout person, when we lose human contact and social awareness ,we become less of our selves. We are not automatons even though the capitalist class would love us to be automatonanistic units of production to sate there inate greed.,
To put it simply, i use a person orientated check out in my local asda, she is an elderly lady but smiles when she sees i buy the Morning Star and we chat whilst shes checks out my shopping. I want to keep her in a job, that is good for her and good for the country, when you actually think about that i am a small c conservative as i value tradition
Use checkouts with real real people and ignore the self service shit, all they are doing is using your time to create more profit for themselves. I could quote at length Marx comments on surplus value but because you have been gaslit so much i would be the enemy,
C'est la vie
This is a real issue, pulled up at a council owned car park the other day. Went to the machine to get a ticket. Big sticker across it saying to scan the QR code and pay online. No other option to use cash, card or even call a number and pay over the phone.Digital exclusion is now permeating into society and it affects those with least in terms of monetary accsesabality and age related indecision. My aunt is in her 80s and does not get technology we are mostly au fait with.
Many of these people got into their positions through dubious privilege, dodgy dealings or a mixture of both. The Government may snoop on the bank accounts of state pensioners!!! How dare this repulsive, disgusting, repellent bunch of liars and (alleged) fraudsters who give billions to their friends by way of false contracts, snoop on pensioners who have worked all their lives and paid their taxes? I am beyond disgusted, beyond comprehension and beyond being a glass half full person. This has upset me so much, not for myself, the only money I have going into my bank account is my State Pension and my Teachers Pension. I claim no benefits but I do have friends who have to because of health problems.
I cannot express how humiliated I would feel if they snooped on my bank account, probably the last piece of privacy we have.
Sorry but .... daft old woman I know.... I have got emotional about this. This is not the country I love and have defended all my life.
Rant over. Apologies.
I find that many Tories and Tory supporters assume everyone is on the fiddle.
I suspect this is because it's what they would do in that position. In other words, it's projection. Of course, fiddling your income tax is understandable, but fiddling benefits is worse than child abuse.
