He only retired aged 30, 6 years after Shakhtar paid €20m for him. Madness really, I remember being buzzing he’d signed.
They were spending big he was a big money signing off Olympiacos where he looked the part for years, but nobody took a risk on him for what they wanted which was probably justified later on after his career fell off a cliff, think he couldn't settle at Shakhtar and after his loan to us was up had they'd already replaced him.
He just went downhill bigtime shows how much confidence matters in football, if you lose it then it can be the end you only need to look at Dele Alli now in Turkey to see that as a prime example.
Like I said though fair play to him paying a lot of his loan fee, it was a massive gamble that didn't pay off for him unlike Fernandinho paying part of his fee.
