Arsenal (A) | Community Shield | Post-match Thread

With this added time fiasco we cant afford to be going into the last few mins with just a single goal lead especially when we're away as it will always benefit inferior opposition (like today) We need to sow games up well before then.

Kovacic , Rodri and Kev should be our midfield. That’s incredible
Kovacic was immense - looked like he'd been in the team for years. Kalvin is a good player - albeit not seen his best yet but Kovacic looks a perfect fit. Kalvin won't be able to dislodge him.

Checked possession stat on bbc after about 25 minutes and it was 85% city.

They created one chance (Havertz) in the whole game?

We’ll be fine. Gonna smash this league by 10 points

Think Pep has got some thinking to do about who become the mainstays this season. It's shit, but one of Grealish, Foden or Alvarez are going to be in and out; I don't see any scenario where all three get regular game time.

The perils of having a great squad, I guess.
Jack needs to buck his ideas up, love the guy but there's a bit more of him somewhere, he showed it last season for a while, just hope last season doesn't go to his head. His antics closed season worries me slightly.

If Haaland is taking up the concentration of one or two opposition centre backs, then it's up for the rest of the attackers to take advantage. I guess that's why Pep played Alvarez. Obviously we look better with Kevin and Phil, they created a lot more. Phil was a bit close to the goalie for his chance, shame he didn't get a bit of luck. We do need a goal scoring option on the right. A tricky winger would be nice.

BBC United Football - Mediacity.

Arsenal gave their hopes of beating Manchester City to the Premier League title a psychological boost as they defeated Pep Guardiola's side on penalties to win the Community Shield.
I honestly don’t see what’s wrong with that? They hadn’t beat us in about 14 games prior to today. Of course it will be a psychological boost to arsenal. So much of elite sport is won inside the head and any boost no matter how small will be used by any half decent manager,

I thought we dicked them 2nd half , all changed with added time and clash of heads
We had control, but I wouldn't say we dicked them. They always looked to have a goal in them & so it proved, albeit a fortuitous double deflected, last minute effort.

It was good to see KDB make such an impact, but we're gonna have to manage his game time this season.

It's our width that concerns me. That's twice in two games we've looked far more dangerous & balanced using "specialist" wide players. We need to get this sorted before the window slams shut... )(

Maybe it’s just because it was a friendly
Yeah, I know. I seem to rate Foden a lot more highly than most. For me he should be the first name on the team sheet. I’m just getting the feeling that he’s the one who seems to miss out and it’s time this stopped. Maybe he starts the next game and I’m reading too much into it, if so, great. Just putting it out there.
