I think Laporte is the better ball player but Ake is the better defender. I understand the need for that when up against the likes of Saka. I don't think Villa score the goal they did on Sunday with Ake playing, he would have had more defensive awareness.

Ake is nowhere near Laportes level - we all know that. Shouldn't have changed it IMO.

Yet Ake has been our best defender, stayed fit for the most part, and was rested by Pep for this game, Laporte hasn’t been anywhere near those levels for a long time, this team is never selected on reputation
