It isn't an option at all because the situation will continue to worsen for at least 18 months.
This is a pandemic of a new strain of virus and it kills anywhere between 1 and 8% of those affected. It will become endemic in due course and be managed via vaccinations in the same manner that winter flu is now, with annually updated versions of the vaccinations to meet the changing nature of the virus as it mutates.
The initial vaccinations will take more than a year to develop because, as with all such medications, extensive trials need to be conducted before they can be released for public use.
In the interim, if countries don't take extreme measures to curb the acceleration of cases then the ability of medical services to deal with it will become overwhelmed and we'll have so many deaths that mass graves will be in use.
If it kills 1% of the UK population, which isn't beyond reasonable expectation, then that's 660,000 people dead. A disaster scenario (say 80% of our population affected and a 5% death rate due to no medical capacity to treat) would be circa 2.6 million dead.
This is a bad situation that will get worse before we get to a point where it's manageable. It'll change the way we interact and travel, not just for decades but forever.
Some very interesting and well researched information.

Just a though without meaning to offend anybody, but might Governments actually like a worst case scenario. Less people globally will help with the CO2 problem and reducing the ageing population would help with pension shortfalls.

On the plus side it's a great chance for the squad to recover and prepare for next week.

Dyche has jus shit himself.

So sorry that you have contracted the virus Karen and I wish you well, I sincerely do! But, we need to do the right thing here and suspension of all sports for the foreseeable future seems the most logical thing to do.....Therefore, I do not expect that to happen ;-(

I am just very worried that we are only seeing the tip of the iceberg on this right now!
I agree,i was of the opinion it would happen in stages and behind closed doors would be first when talking about it before but now the games need stopping,UEFA turning down wolves request to not play there game and AM arriving in droves from a hot infection area in spain today is beyond stupid

Seems odd that City haven't emailed to tell us it's cancelled.

I got an email & it also confirmed Burnley & Madrid are still scheduled to be played as expected.

Dear

Manchester City’s Premier League fixture at home to Arsenal has been postponed.

The decision to postpone tonight's game has been taken as a precautionary measure on medical advice, after it emerged that personnel from Arsenal FC have come into contact with the Olympiacos owner, Evangelos Marinakis, who has been named as a positive case of COVID-19.

As a seasonal hospitality member your booking will remain active for the rearranged fixture, and we will advise the new date in due course.

The upcoming fixtures with Burnley in the Premier League and Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League are still scheduled to take place as planned.

We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming games and thank you for your continued support.

How bad is it?
For someone with my health probs it's been grim, not being able to breathe very well is no joke,2 emergency treatments antibiotics, non stop coughing up shit,a different antibiotic started today,i'm pissed off to say the very least,it has been scary
I have to stress that people in good health will NOT get ill like this so DON'T worry about it

Okay thanks Karen, hope you feel better soon.

Have you got access to emergency help if things get worse?

Season needs to stop. This is going to turn into a farce
Arsenal players told to self isolate because the might or might not have it game gets postponed

Tottenham with all there injuries play the rags on the weekend
Would it be beneficial if spurs players self isolate because they were in close contact with someone and get the game postponed

It looks like you dont have to have the virus to get games postponed but maybe just meet someone who has

Getefe saying they will not travel to milan because of the virus
Probably the right decision
But wont that open the door for any club to use the same excuse even within there own country
The football authorties seem to be in some sort of paralysis. Hardly suprising when you look at the crooks running them who are only interested in money and don't give a shit about fans. It is bloody obvious that they can't carry on with this inconsistent approach with some games cancelled, some behind closed doors, and some being played normally. If there is a risk to a few young fit Arsenal players then there is clearly a risk to 50,000 fans in a stadium. The least they should do is cancel the European championships this year and suspend domestic and European football till we have a clearer picture. Perhaps we can complete the postponed fixtures in the spring/summer, perhaps not, but people's lives are more important than football.
Personally I don't trust a single word made by the Government on this issue. It's about as valid as the crazy advice given to Grenfell Tower residents to remain in a burning tower. People need to use their own common sense.
