Arsenal (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

I don't want to piss on anybody's chips after a great win over our title rivals, but it's NOW GAME ON

The job is not done and the remaining 6 games all need to be won and by more goals than Arsenal
Today is the start of the title push and we will still need a little bit of luck on the way.

Today is the day that we must not look at the Arsenal's results and say they will drop points ??
Today is the day you give Arsenal the 5 wins and the 15 points and hope we can outscore them

So, how does a cup shock happen ? wanting it more than the other team
The Premier League and the better teams have quality players, even some better than what we have ?
But the hunger and the will to win at all costs are the difference, You have to want it more than the other team.

I think Arsenal didn't fancy the real fight ? They changed formation and dropped the striker, the truth be told is they wanted to score on the break and defend, City and Pep never set up to play for a draw and play to win

Hunger and wanting it more are the key FACTORS you can all the quality players and the mentality to handle the pressure, but once you cross the line, its dog eat dog and you better want it more than the other

Cup shocks happen mostly due to the uncertain nature of football: not always the team with the better chances win. We created more chances at W Ham than vs Liverpool in the cup but couldn't score more than one goal. It had nothing to with desire.

Arsenal worked very hard and created chances to score at 1:1 and 2:1. Fortunately, they didn't, partly due to world-class saves, party because Havertz isn't Haaland.

So, to sum up, we complain when we win and the pundits say it was because the opposition played badly, and we complain when we win and the pundits say the opposition played well.

Great win yesterday gives us an opportunity, Let's assume we beat Burnley, thereafter Arsenal play twice before we play Everton, and. Could be potentially six points ahead! Making Everton (one of our games in hand) a Must win otherwise yesterday could have been all for nothing, Fingers crossed Arsenal drop points (though I doubt it).We Are City" We'll Fight Til The End"

It is quite instructive to have a quick look round other forums — forums of clubs whose fan base has no great love for us (why should they, indeed?) and one that is downright hostile. The consensus up and down the country is absolutely and completely that Gabriel should have seen red and been off, and that, incidentally, Erling was too honest and should have gone down. People have not been slow to notice that Gabriel would have been out for three matches. And he is, with Saliba, a key defender.
Also, I'm struck by the almost universal hatred for Arsenal. I didn't know it ran that deep up and down the country. A few posters are saying that they'd quite like Arsenal to win the title because “it's been a while” but most seem to agree that they are a singularly unlovely team which has turned cheating into an art that pays off. And that Gabriel is a thug. Without liking us particularly (and the standard mantra of the club that cheats and still hasn't been punished because the PL is too scared comes up) neutrals seem to be generally wanting us to put one over on them, because it would be a big laugh for everyone.

I hope Rodri is OK. Looked like a groin strain.

If he's out for 2 or 3 weeks then we have an issue in midfield.
As much as I like Nico, he's not the Ballon Dor winner is he.

100% blue. We've got 8 cup finals now.

Performance was lower than recent weeks but just take the win!
I don't see this. Arsenal are the best team we have faced recently and that showed but our lads rose to the challenge and won the game. There were some frustrations - Donnaruma and Semenyo in particular - but everyone played their part in that win. The team has gelled brilliantly and the only worry is keeping the non-starters happy and how to possibly replace Bernado once he leaves.

What some of you might be overlooking is that our 2 final opponents Crystal Palace and Aston Villa might be involved in European finals. By the time Villa play us if they win their Final they will have qualified for next year's Champions League so they will already be on the beach. As for Palace their final if they get through would be on the 27th. I suspect for a club like Palace this might be a priority. Just a thought.

We might have to play Palace on the Thursday in the final week of games.

That’s a double whammy as we’d only have 3 days rest before Villa and Palace play Arsenal last too with less rest.

He has this annoying habit of cutting inside a losing possession. Multiple times yesterday. Stick to your wing and beat your man jezza

I thought there might have been something to be said for swapping wings with Semenyo, who didn't have his best day against Hinciapie. Doku had him on toast at Wembley, and part of me wondered if he had been moved to that side deliberately to avoid Doku, or if they just played him on the other side at Wembley as a one-off.

What amused me more generally is that Arsenal plainly did not have a counter to the tactic we developed at Wembley of our front four lining up and stopping them from passing it out from the back. Liverpool, when we did the same thing, gave it to Van Dijk who brought the ball forward five yards and played a sharp pass in to the midfield. Arsenal just gave it to Reya who played it long, which became a 50/50. They even did that with their goal kicks.

Other teams will have watched that.

I was actually quite impressed by Arsenal's energy levels. They looked like they were running on empty last weekend, and again on Wednesday, and I thought they would flag after 65/70 minutes, but they kept going to the end. But whilst getting yourself up for the title decider is one thing, I wonder if they can do the same thing after a bruising 90 minutes away at Atletico.

It's a sprint finish to the line from here, but I would say we are looking fresher and hungrier.
