Arsenal (h) Post Match Thread

Perhaps - but what is the rationale?

For dropping Stones?
For dropping Zinchenko?
For dropping Sane?
For dropping Mahrez?
---
I think that Pep dropped the above players because he doesn't at present trust them as much as other alternatives in big games. Not starting Mahrez/Sane and instead starting Bernardo is curious - and telling.

I think Sane will probably play on Wednesday and there's some rotation going on there (personally i would have played him yesterday but i understand the reasons for not). Mahrez hasn't entirely convinced yet and Zinchenko hasn't convinced at LB (not his fault, it just in't his position). With Stones, i wonder if some of his absences are to do with the personal issues he's had going on?

Which explains how many of the above mentioned dropped players?...

For starters Zinch wasn't dropped, he needs to have been part of the team in the first place to be dropped.

Sane perhaps missed out because Pep wanted more control for this specific game.

Mahrez is still adapting so is at this point still a fringe player.

And Stones lost out because Pep wanted an extra midfielder.

Perhaps...

But if any of the above players were first choice at their positions... they would have started.

All of the above players - I think- aren't trusted in big games - absent undisclosed injury.

Zinchenko will likely be sold in the summer window if possible - he's just not good enough for our side.

Mahrez isn't performing as well as he should.

Stones is "home grown" and thus is more valuable than otherwise - but he's not nearly as good as Laporte.

Sane - is hit-and-miss - has the talent to be world's best - but I'm not sure that he has the drive and know-how to do so.

I think its because Pep trust Fernandinho more.

He's broken up with his long term partner who he has a child with. According to the papers (yes, paper talk!) he's moved out of the family home and into the same building as Pep. No idea how much it's affecting him but it seems as though most her immediate family were employed by him too so it sounds as though there's been a reasonable amount of upheaval.
