Arsenal (H) | Post-Match Thread

Silva is great to keep balance and dominate the other team. But he is not gonna produce anything noteworthy, he won't give you an assist, a goal, an impossible pass, dribble 3 and go forward... and you need that against great teams. You won't dominate Madrid, PSG, Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern most of the time.

Any manager in the world (including Pep) strongly prefers KdB over Silva for the big matches. The reality is City doesn't need a player to beat Arsenal, but we need players to beat the top 6 and Bayern, PSG, Madrid. That's why Silva is a great role player and why it seems like we are a "better team" with him. The same analogy applies to Laporte vs Dias or Cancelo vs Zinchenko or Walker.
We are talking about Bernardo Silva here? the one I watch effortlessly goes past people with his ball control and trickery, creates numerous chances and scores a few too.

You do realise he was second to Ederson in number of minutes played last season, also look who was missing in most of the games we lost last season.

I understand the conundrum.
I think the speed and work rate increased tremendously with the team selection of the last two games. However I’m still not convinced that it’ll work against the likes of a Chelsea defence or any decent 10 men behind the ball.
Look at the aberration of the Spurs match where, in fairness, we had a different starting eleven.
But when Kev came on and was pushed up around the box things alla sudden started happening. We could have pulled a result out of that if he was on earlier.

Truth is, in my opinion, for much of last year Kev was not the problem. No disrespect to Mahrez who was great last season and is looking hungry again, but him on the right and Sterling on the left really slows down our pace. Both kept coming inside and recycling.
Predictable and with no target man it made breaking good teams down more difficult.

Early days and we’ve played two woeful teams, but look at the speed of delivery with Jesus on the right and Jack on the left.
The work rate of Bernardo and Jesus together with the movement of Torres and Gundogan is like watching us at our best again, but imagine Kev picking out first time balls to either side as well. The options are crazy.
We need cool heads to place the tap ins in the corners. Personally Sterling is the one I’d be dropping at the moment. It’s a tough one too but I would rather Jesus on the right than Mahrez. Maybe Mahrez is a good option through the middle.
Pep is right to be happy with the squad he has. I don’t envy him the task of picking a team week in week out though. That’s why hey paid the big bucks.
Until Kev is fully fit I doubt he could do the graft Bernardo does but fully fit he can and nobody opens a defence like him.
Options all over the place. As long as half a dozen of our team are scoring over 10 goals this season we might just get away without a 30 goal a season striker.
Good post, man.

Yep, it was a terrible tackle, badly executed by Xhaka in that he didn't connect fully (luckily).

2 footed, off the ground, diving in, out of control. Red all day long
Unless the perpetrator is a rag or a dipper. The red shirts of Arsenal no longer carry an automatic reduction in punishment.

Well, another stroll in the park against Arsenal, who are looking more shit
each game, how the mighty have fallen eh?

Did we play well against Arsenal or were they just terrible? We scored goals from high crosses. Normally we never do that. I don't think we should take much from this game because Arsenal really were terrible.

Why is Xhaka captain? How many times has he been sent off for Arsenal?

I'm not sure there is much we can learn from this game about City.

Thought Arsenal had their tactics right initially with how they went man to man. Once we went ahead it was game over.

Bernardo was fantastic, Jesus exceptional out wide. Its been a fantastic response since the Spurs game.
I had absolutely no idea what Arsenal were trying to achieve

Eric, Gabby and Bernardo should be going nowhere. This team clicked today and they were major players in that.

After the week we've had with Kane and Ronaldo it was great to see us get 5 goals from different players, and Torres was absolutely brilliant.

Hat off to Gundog who did a great job stringing things together. Amazing to think we still have KdB and Foden to come back.
There’s only TWO Ferran Torres, TWO Ferran Torres

Very good performance. First player since Leroy where you sense the expectation of the crowd as he receives the ball. The ball seems stuck to his feet and rarely loses it. Going to be a star for us. (JG)

Absolutely brilliant performance by everyone in blue.
Rod gets some stick on here but I thought he was excellent.
We could and should have finished with double figures today.
Arsenal are very poor but that was partly due to our excellence.
Jesus and Torres very very good again as was Bernie and Gundo.
Zinc looked good when he came on and Grealish was pulling their defenders all over the place.
Great way to start the weekend..happy days
It was an emphatic win in the end.
We thrashed Arsenal, which, after all the beatings they have dished out to City over the years, was sweet.
I agree, we probably could have beaten them by 10, but 5 will do.
Be it 1,5 or 10 goals a win's a win and you still only get 3 points for it.
Just suppose we had beaten them by 10? What would the fallout have been?
Arteta sacked? Surely no-one truly wants that?
The rest of the media hating us even more because we humiliated one of their favoured 4? (I could well live with that!)
The agenda of us being a club that only wins 'because of the money' reinforced in peoples' minds? I remember they called it 'financial doping' and a system was introduced especially to stop us 'buying the league'.
Some people would call that restraint of trade and it only delayed our rise to the top, never stopped it.
FFP worked really well there didn't it?
No we are not a club that goes out to humiliate other clubs, we are not so insecure as to need to do that. Why?
Because we are super City from Maine Road and the best team in the land and all the world.
(Always have been, even when we were sh*t.)
We, City, are a class act, not a crass one.
