Arsenal Post Match Thread.

Sergio's all-round game is better than ever - 8 in 8 and 26 for the season. Nuff said.
Yes, a few months ago I would've agreed he needed to be moved on in the summer but he's done enough to convince me these past couple of months that he should stay. Not that my opinion counts for fuck all but just saying!

Im amazed he ever got the sack because according to folklore on here, we have won every single game we ever played under him or have lost since he left had he been in charge.

History tells us we would never have won that game 5-1 under him!
Well his PL record included two 6-1 wins away from home, one against the reigning champions. And he was manager for our only league victory at Arsenal in about 40 years.

But he still misses an alarming rate of chances, therein lies a problem too. His numbers are good, but he should have so much more, particularly against the bigger sides.

The real culprits for missing chances are KDB, Sterling and Dave , how many goals also come from midfield these days or when did a defender last score for us from our aimless float it high corners?
We'd be nowhere without Sergio- this season, last season or the season before that.

He's our best and most consistent goal scorer , let's hope the new darling of the Etihad Jesus gets anywhere near his stats- Id play both but that's the managers problem .

You always get maximum effort with Navas. His touch in midfield or around his own area is very underrated. But he does hesitate on arrival at the opposing box and the opposition have time to organise. However, Zaba (best right back in the Prem of his generation) takes up positions that make life difficult for wingers to get past him. Although injuries have caught up with him, he is probably still the best one-on-one full back in the tackle - especially against the better wingers. Not Navas' fault that he's not a natural fit at right back.

I don't disagree with anything you've said about Zabaleta but when you say he takes up positions that make it hard for the opposing team, I'm not entirely sure that's Guardiola's priority. He wants our players to take up positions based on who has the ball and where. The team is constantly changing shape and pulling in all sorts of directions. Not really sure Zabaleta has the legs for that, or at least against a side with as much attacking pace as arsenal. Navas clearly isn't the answer either but at least he can cover the ground more easily.

The bottom line is we don't have the all of the personnel required to play Guardiola's way at the moment. It's something that will take a long time to implement but i think its still worth sticking with. The long term benefit will be worth it and we're already seeing it working to good effect at the other end of the pitch. Even sections of the press seem to be in agreement that there are signs of something coming together at city and there is acknowledgement that it was something that wouldn't happen overnight. I've seen three or four articles to that effect over the past few weeks which is pretty good going considering most people think there's an agenda against us.

Well we got the early goal and seemed surprised that we had.
Instead of keeping on pressing for a second goal, we didn't and Arsenal equalised .
Sergio scored a great 'eye of the needle' goal, but we still didn't have the belief that we could really go on to win that match. Arsenal equalise again!
There is a lack of leadership on the pitch, unless Sergio is in the mood.
When we went in front for the second time I would have brought Vinny on, and probably taken off Otamendi. Get that LEADER on, stiffen up that defence, but I am not Pep!
So we end up with a draw,an opportunity wasted or a decent point away? Make your own mind up.
Perhaps Pep will use Vinny in the cup games (I for one would really love to see him play in the final and hold the old trophy aloft, go out like the winner he is.)
Perhaps Pep wanted to save Vinny for Chelski, assuming that the team he fielded was good enough for the win.
Perhaps Pep is out for revenge after what happened in the home match against Chelski.
I for one would have snatched your hand off for 4 points out of these two games - and it's still possible!

The need to convert chances into first of all an on target shots then into goals is still our season long failing. Add to that the indifferent attitude shown by some leads me to believe that quite a few will be replaced at the end of the season and they like us can guess who they are.

However, the players need to be sold to offset his purchases so financial pressure as well as trying to get that 4th place prevail so playing them should suit both parties.

How do you stimulate a player who knows he is going ? All he is playing for is his cut of a transfer so trying hard without impact may not help his cause so strolling through the game may actually suit the personality and cause of some.

Once again denied 2 stonewall penalties against Arsenal. It is time Andre Marriner retired he is clearly not up to the standard that is required to ref a match in the premier league. This also applies to both the idiots that were running the line. I will say 1 thing just you watch if the similar incident happens in our box to 1of our players how quickly the ref will blow for a pen.

If you count those incidents that would be another 6 points to our total and it would put us a lot closer to both Spurs and Chelsea.

As regards the way the players are performing that is Peps problem but 1 thing I would say is that if the player/s are not willing to perform then they should be dropped from the squad and put players who are willing to perform into the squad.

I take issue with this statement. I agree his goal scoring is as good as ever, but 'all-round game'? He is the only leading goal scorer in the PL with zero assists.
