Your arguments are sound, I think you have exposed Wenger a little bit here. When he criticizes the likes of Chelsea and City for their spending I'm sure he does it because he feels it's in Arsenal's interest to do so, but you know what they say about throwing stones and living in glass houses. Monegasque is definitely the coolest sounding nationality there is.

I don't think I can add too much to this, suffice to say that while I've commended Petrusha, it's only fair to point out that you've contributed to a good debate as well. While it would be difficult to defend Wenger's double standards on this issue, he's not alone when it comes to hypocrisy in football - most managers will show hypocritical traits at some point or other. However, Wenger's comments irk us more than most simply because more often than not they're aimed at our club. If they were aimed elsewhere we wouldn't get anywhere near as het up about them.

That said, I still stand by my point about his latest quotes re Lampard and that is that they weren't anywhere near as bad as the headlines suggested.

I get that completely, and honestly I feel that hate is such an integral part of football. I realize I'm the first person using the 'hate' word but there's clearly a 'strong dislike' at the very least for Wenger around here, and in my opinion that's entirely justified simply because he manages another club. As an Arsenal fan, I feel entitled to hate the manager of any other club in the world, just as I freely hate (almost) all the other football clubs that exist. If there's a rational justification for that hate (as you guys have with Wenger) fine, but even if not I don't see anything wrong with it. We've got to let out our tribal instincts somewhere, right?
Of course you're right Wenger isn't the only hypocrite in the game, we need look only so far as Jose and his little horse.

They will be the same old arsenal this season, no bite when it comes to the crunch games.

Fernando toure fernan

Vs

Arteta Wilshere Ramsey

They would get blown over.

It'd be criminal of them to not replace Arteta for an actual enforcer.

For a long time now they've been flat track bullies. They're pretty good at swatting teams below them but they always come undone in the big games.

The same way the rags are crying out for defensive additions and a quality box to box player (Carrick in decline and Fletcher isn't the player he once was) Arsenal need an additional centre back and a powerhouse in midfield that they have lacked since the days of Vieira and Petit. They need someone who will put a foot in, can hold the ball up and do the dirty work that allows their numerous attacking players to have some more freedom. Whereas Pellegrini can drop a defensive midfielder because he has a clear style of play in which to operate on and off the ball, Wenger doesn't seem to recognise he still needs a defensive type in the big games. Their performance in the CL was excellent as usual in the group stage but as always they fell short when they tried to go toe to toe with a side that had that added balance to it.

Wenger is now claiming that City tapped up Sagna long before his move. Has he said anything about his own club recently?

He just said it looks like Sagna had agreed to go to go to City a long time ago. Lets be honest, the talk was that he was in contact with City for ages, which of course both parties are perfectly entitled to do. Again, a bit of a sensationalist headline.

Edit: Just read the MEN article who are suggesting that it was longer than the 6 months, although it depends on what he means with "a long time ago." If that's the case, he has a bit of a cheek, considering i'm pretty sure he got guys like Chamakh the exact same way.
