BBC reporting "The £72m Arsenal look set to spend on Nicolas Pepe - making him the third most-expensive player signed by a Premier League club".

Off the top of my head, Pogba, Lukaku and VVD were all dearer or am I wrong?

The Lukaku deal always makes me laugh in the way it is reported.

They paid £75m, plus £15m in easily achieved add-ons, PLUS gave Everton Rooney (worth around £15m at the time, PLUS had to pay Rooney £15m over the last two years of his contract to wage-match his deal at United, Lukaku cost united £120m.

Yeah, it always gets reported as £75m yet is well known that it cost more. I thought it was around £90m but doesn't surprise me that it calculated to more.
Isn't it a similar deal with Pogba too? It always gets reported as £89m but I can remember some complications over who paid the agent £25m. If united paid all of it, the deal would be £114m

So, gossip they are looking at Coutinho on loan. Smart move (even though costly), as it should make a big difference to a very good front 3 and would put them in pole position for the last top 4 spot imo.

They still need to improve their defence, though.

Very true (although I'm quite happy if they don't!) but I reckon Coutinho should be enough to give them the edge over the other wanna-be's - who'll score enough goals for Chelsea? United are comedy gold from front to back, and there are issues with all the chasing pack.

An expensive short term solution maybe, but Coutinho could be a big hit.

You’re probably right regarding top four, but I was thinking more about them being able to mount a challenge for the top three or even the title.
