Arsenal Thread | 2024/25

Arsenal are indeed a strong team but they are resorting to gamesmanship which makes them hard to respect as opponents. We had the same thing with Liverpool with the Mane thuggery, bus attack and dodgy refereeing performances.
If we were to lose the league it would be nice for it to be to a team that played with good sportsmanship. I may be wearing skyblue tinted specs but I think City have been successful playing to the true spirit of the game.
nah mate, its not accurate i believe. But we free to choose what we believe so You within the right not to listen what is my justification below;)

I mean, its a fact, that teams use "tricks" and City too. Its simply part of the "know how", way to do things at the top, very demanding level. We all know what Rodri should sometimes do or others too;) You may sometimes find us in a situation we are near the corner flag with clear intentions or Edi walking rather without a rush. Arsenal been defending, you cant do anything else really at the Etihad with such a great site as us. There are tricks, but do not wanted to harm us. We cannot expect that they come and be conciliatory.

Well, I suppose if you consider putting all 10 men in your own 18 yard box being 'great defensively' then...
I mean, I seen 10 men proper teams which got absolutely battered by many goals, so to hold on 50 minutes at the Etihad against generational team sounds like an achievement to me

That’s fair enough, but it was the dirty, underhand, cheating tactics that they used.

General time-wasting beyond the usual norms. The goalkeeper going down with "cramp' on numerous occasions. The manager sending substitutes around with messages, etc, etc.

They played like prime Atletico that afternoon.

And got a result because their thugs were out to get Rodri from the off. Partey for me is almost on a par with Rudiger, and Havertz is a grade 1 shyster.
You do know that Partey and Rodri are mates right? They played together at Atletico. What happened to Rodri is a massive shame but to say it was as a result of thuggery is disingenuous. Unless I'm having a crisis of memory Haaland was smashing into players as well. It was a physical game.

Re the prime Atletico comment - sure that happened when Arsenal went down to 10 as doing otherwise would have been suicide. People talk about how Liverpool come and give City a game - well let's not forget at 11 v 11 Arsenal were 2-1 up and looking threatening. I'm not saying they'd definitely have won the game but what was clear is City weren't having it all their own way and I'm sure that dynamic would have continued into the 2nd half. The red killed the game as a spectacle.

I remember Liverpool going down to 10 at the Etihad and getting battered 5-0 so it is hardly surprising Arsenal would revert to their strengths as if they'd tried to attack and leave spaces that would play into City's hands.

The problem is the strengths you reverted to were outright cheating, dress up however you like, call it the dark arts, gamesmanship blah blah but it is cheating plain and simple, everytime one of your players feigns an injury especially a head injury for one of your impromptu team talks it is nothing more than outright cheating, watch how quickly arteta starts crying when people copy arsenal and restrict rayas movement from corners. All arsenal fans are dressing up is the fact that they cheat to win or in this case draw.

I've got a colleague who is a PSG fan, he travelled from France for the game yesterday, these were his comments (I always like to get comments from fans of other teams where there isn't a natural rivalry);

'Arsenal is super good man Ruthless in Defense , Clinical in Offense and do all the small things perefectly Playing like a prime Italian team from the 90s In the end you scored on 2 GK mistakes. We touched the crossbars twice. BUT you were always calm and somehow in Control. We could have played 4 more hours without scoring Declan Rice rugby tackle Marquinhos in the box. I ain't even mad, Declan helped Marquinohs back up and joked with the referee and moved on -> Prime van bommel shit, I admire this. Arsenal is ready to wina UCL Very very solid team. Easily top 3 right now in europe. Maybe #1 on a two legs format. PSG is still in early stage of its rebuilding. The team is very young and has talent, but many flaws too. The coach needs more time. Like Arteta needed time'

And who said the French don't have a sense of humour.

Well I'll agree there were elements of that and I don't like to see it. It will backfire as well because refs will wise up to it, Arsenal will get a reputation and in future we may not get marginal decisions so any benefit tends to be short lived anyway.

By not being boring, bus parking, penalty box blockers, 10 man Juventus took a gamble and came away from Leipzig with a win. Perhaps Captain Black will be asked about this unique and previously unheard of tactical approach in his next press conference.
