That was absolute garbage yesterday. This was an opportunity to stick it to an absolute scumbag team that has historically cheated its way to get PL titles ahead of us. Whether it's kicking the hell out of our players or the Big Nosed w*nker pressuring the refs to add on time or gain penalties, yesterday was a chance to humiliate United and put them in a negative mindset so they go out against Sociedad and their season is done. Odegaard has been poor this season and he's a bit of a wet lettuce personality wise so I'd remove him as captain and give the armband to Rice or Maghalaes instead - both of whom have more drive. I'd contemplate selling Odegaard (maybe even to City as a ready-made KDB replacement) if we can get £80m+ for him as we have the situation coming soon where Saka will be back and will get into the team and that will force Nwaneri out. Nwaneri is young but should be a starter and maybe he can take over from Odegaard as that's his best position anyway.

It's been mentioned many times before and I'll do it again - our summer transfer window was negligent. Signing Merino (who doesn't get into our 1st XI in midfield) and not signing a striker, only to now play Merino - AS A STRIKER is just mindbogglingly stupid. That's on Arteta and the board. Talk of signing Isak is nonsense - why the hell would he go to Arsenal when he could walk into other teams where he'd be guaranteed trophies. Isn't going to happen so we'll get a Sesko or someone like that who is unproven in the PL and could well end up being a Hoijlund. We had the chance to get Toney for £45m in the summer - what on earth compelled the board to sign another DCM instead?

There are some on-field tactical fuck ups as well. We are very passive in progression and rarely cut loose - additionally Arteta likes to play Lewis-Skelly ahead of Calafiori. I like to see youth come through the academy (are you listening Rag scum - pinching them from other clubs' academies isn't the same) and we have a decent crop coming through. Nwaneri is a supreme talent, he could turn out to be a generational one. Lewis-Skelly is a decent player but absolutely nowhere near the same potential as Nwaneri and Calafiori is a better left back. So play the Italian National Team defender you spent a fortune on instead of the 18 year old (who is actually a midfielder) who spends half his games getting red cards.

Regardless, with the squad we have, I ask myself, 'would we have done better with another manager? Would Pep have finished higher? Simeone? Ancelotti? Inzaghi?' I think the answer is yes so that's something the board need to ponder on given the fact Arteta has been given a ton of money. A truly elite manager is needed to take the club to the next step. We've just signed an elite Sporting Director (from Atletico). I wonder what he'll make of it and if he sees Arteta as the way forward given the fact he's worked with Simeone for the past years. Arteta is probably Poundland Simeone by comparison - maybe we should try and get the real deal!

It's a fair assessment. This should have been the season you won the league, we've been miles off it and you've been the closest challengers. When we were going toe-to-toe with the dippers they took advantage when we had a bad season. You've not been able to.

I know there's no love lost with Arsenal after the quite ridiculous behaviour of your players. But the obsession with City is pathetic. If you concentrated on yourselves rather than getting worked up about what Haaland did several months ago, you might stand a chance of winning the league. Instead there was such a concentrated effort to take revenge against City and mock Haaland. Brilliant, job done....in one game. But subsequently you've won 1 of your next 4 in the league. You've got to channel that energy into every game, not a one off. There's a huge mentality issue in the squad, which probably comes from the manager.

Looking further forwards, you'll surely get a striker in the summer. Your defence is solid, with a number of options and you're adding to your midfield. Sign a striker and maybe another winger and you'll be in an excellent position to challenge for a number of years. But you'll need to sort out the mentality issues, and it probably means getting another manager.

And you also have the small matter of the dippers and a rejuvenated City.

I think part of the problem also is Arteta. He's too bipolar and that transmits to the team. It's like we are too highly strung and emotional to grind out the required points over 38 games even though in one off games we might be incredible.

Re Dippers and City next season - a lot depends on whether they keep Salah. Re City there's a big rebuild there and it takes a while to get that transformation done and being honest I don't think the players you've signed so far are at the level of some of the old guard who have faded this season (eg KDB, Silva). That being said you have the best player in the world coming back into the team. I'd also worry about the Club World Cup and the lack of rest there assuming City will be under pressure from FIFA to play their strongest team. Dippers will face the same issue. Arsenal, despite winning the 'we beat City 5-1' trophy weren't invited to participate so we can spend the summer scouring the transfer sfer market for utility right backs.

We're also letting Partey go on a free to PSG whilst probably signing an inferior player in the form of Zuibimendi. Makes no sense to me.

This season was a big opportunity for you, but to fair it would take some doing to go toe to toe with Liverpool. If you sign a decent striker in the closed season maybe it'll be your turn next year.

The dippers aren't in the CWC.

Rodri transforms this City side, what looks miles off it this season will be instantly back to it with him in the team. Khusanov looks very good in defence. Nico looks a solid asset in midfield too. What we need is either for the attacking players we have - Savinho, Doku and Foden to find consistency they've missed so far this season or to sign one or two top talents. There are plenty of players out there and you can be certain our board won't rest on their laurels this summer. They fucked up previous windows, they won't make the same mistake this time.

We haven't had a pre-season in a long while and will do what we always do - ease into the new campaign and pick up in the new year.

I don't think we'll necessarily be straight back to our imperious best, but I'm confident we'll challenge.
 
Arsenal's need for a striker was patently obvious on Sunday. The argument will be that no-one of the required quality is available, but I bet Solanke would have done OK for them, and let's face it, any striker is likely to be better than none (although the rags may dispute this. What was clear on Sunday again is that that Arsenal team is allergic to the opposition box. I lost count of the times that the gooners would play the ball up to the 18 yard line then play 3 or 4 passes backwards because the box was a no go zone. If they wish to win the title they will need more than one player with the instinct to attack the box, and this suggests the need for a complete change of approach. No title next season either!
 
So Real Madrid next round, will be interesting. Can’t see them getting any further

Yeah unfortunately it's very unlikely they beat them, I think Barca are the only team left that can do it, they know how to beat and even embarass them.

Decent rant.
You can keep Odegaard though, he’s never even looked like being on the same level as Kev, and as you rightly point out there’s something soft about him.

Hes not on the same level as KDB when it comes to long range shooting but he's just as good IMHO when it comes to picking passes to get through low blocks - he just needs intelligent players around him to read them and when Saka's out he's not really got that - Nwaneri aside but Nwaneri is still a kid. Odegaard playing balls through to Haaland would be terrifying though - particularly as they've played together for Norway.

He's absolutely not captain material though.
