Rice definitely doesn't need a 'defensive' player next to him or Partey and Odegaard wouldn't work with him. He needs a deep lying playmaker though. Also Rice's engine to get box to box is like having 12 men in your team so playing him as a 6 is a bit of waste of his engine.
He came through as a defensive midfielder, yet for Arsenal he has Partey next to him or Jorginho and for England he has never once been trusted to play that position alone. Two defensive midfielders is ultra defensive. I think he is a great 8, a number 6, he is not.

This discussion just shows how football is at the moment, rice while being a good player cost over 100m to get arsenal over the line in the league and he hasnt done so TWICE and now he scored a couple of worldie free kicks (which he has never done before) hes the second coming, the way arsenal over rate their players is almost as bad as the dippers.

Those, who doubted him, must be feeling a bit sheepish now.
He has helped knit our midfield together.

What's hilarious is that due to Havertz's injury he's having to play out of position as a makeshift striker for us and does look uncomfortable at times and yet even still he's miles better at it than Rasmus Hoijlund!

That’s not saying much, though is it?

He's the kind of player you only really appreciate if he plays for your team every week. Also technically underrated, Joe Cole and Jack Wilshere were raving about his technical ability. I saw him do some pretty crazy skills in training.
Like pass the ball first time? I only ask because he doesn't really do first time. Normally one to stop the ball, one to get it out of his feet, then one to pass.

There's a collie dog down the road that can do that better than Birtles on the local playing field.

The first time i have seen him hit it forwards

He picked soft "targets". If he'd tried that shite on with some of Madrid's ultras, there's a strong possibility it would have ended up messy for him.
Yep, smallest group of the smallest looking boys he could see, so they became the target.
Conveniently wandered past "Petro, the butcher with eyes that look like they could burn through steel" being as quiet as a mouse just 3 mins earlier.

Does show what elite mentality we had, at the end of our cycle, to push ourselves over the line for 4 in a row. Dips won't do that, arselona, honestly can't see them winning the league.

Their football was at a higher level a couple of years ago, these time wasting, rolling around antics have cost them big time. I genuinely do want them to beat mardrid away, but can't help feeling captain black's emotions will come into play....

Just put on the Dippers thread that they'll have to give a guard of honour at Klanfield. Not great for them.......

They should be 100% all in for that competition. To be fair to them, as far as fans are concerned winning the CL would be huge for them. I think PL is bigger, but as they've never won the Chumps League I'm sure that's a bigger prize at the minute. We all knew the PL was bigger, but after having won a few I'm sure a lot of fans would have given up one PL just win one CL - shut up the likes of Villa and Forest.

Bottled the league again though. Gotta hurt.
