If they don't get rid of arteta this summer they'll achieve nothing next season. I like him, I don't mind him I suppose but I don't see someone who inspires his players.

At this time of the season pep would have our players fired up all the way through these dead rubber games. That's not happening with arsenal right now is it. In fact his players look like they've given up right after the PSG game.

Arteta doesn't seem to have the ability to change the game mid-flow, he just throws subs at any problems.

His man management... having odegaard as captain over rice. His poor management of the various situations they've had with keepers, xhaka etc. Just doesn't seem to have what it takes.

But I think the arsenal board are going to have a tough decision, if only they knew something about football.

I wonder if their fans would give up a Top 5 finish for a place in this seasons CL Final.

It's not an impossible scenario but they would need to lose to Liverpool and Newcastle and then fail to win at Southampton on the final day.

The rest would need to win every game (Villa) or all but one (NUFC, CFC, NFFC) to finish on 69pts or more.

2 wins or 1 win & 2 draws would be enough for us.
Nah; they'll comfortably get top 5, unfortunately. Newcastle and Chelsea could (repeat, COULD) both drop points today. And they're playing each other next saturday lunchtime; at least one of them will drop points there. And Chelsea are at Forest on the last day. That could be a "winner takes all" top 5 shootout. 70 pts should be enough for a top 5 spot, and I can't see Chelsea getting that total, given their remaining games. I don't think Villa will make it. My top 5 would be...

Dips
Tarqs
Us
Newcastle
Forest

Hopefully, 2nd and 3rd are in the wrong order! I've gone for Forest due to their not unkind remaining games. Newcastle could be an iffy call, given their remaining fixtures.

I'm looking at this purely from the context of the most expensive player for Arsenal FC.

Arteta wants Arsenal to be taken seriously as a major contestant for the biggest prizes on offer.

So act like it then. I haven't got an issue with Rice per se or his celebration. The issue I've got is with their faux premature glory. It looks awkward as fuck.

Arteta jumps around like an idiot outside the technical area.

Their captain takes photographs of the club photographer and Rice bows to the crowd like he's delivered the performance of the season.

Arsenal are in real danger of getting knocked out of the champions league on Wednesday and finishing 3rd in the premier league in what has been a two horse race.

So no I'm not suggesting he shouldn't celebrate his goal and trudge back to centre circle.

My advice would be to pick the ball up celebrate the goal on the way back to the centre circle, acknowledge the assist and go and score the winner.

If he were to do that it would at least give the opposition and their own fans the impression they're up to the task.

My initial post was that I had a feeling the celebration by Rice would come back and bite him and Arsenal on their arse.

In that context he must be waking up this morning feeling like an amateur and not a one hundred million pounds player for a club that fancy themselves for premier league and champions league success.
Totally agree, though, I don’t think you’re allowed to mention his fee - £100 million is reserved for when referring to just the one player.

Arsenal to use 'anger and rage' of Bournemouth loss against PSG

BBC article

Here's a novel thought, how about using 'anger and rage' at loss to PSG for the PSG game.

Arsenal plan on using anger and rage against PSG. That'll work. If there's one thing you definitely couldn't say about arsenal, it's that they are always over emotional...

You're missing my point. I'm not comparing their abilities I'm saying that both players have been vital for their respective teams and both have had a significant drop from their usual standards.
Fair enough.
But, I've always thought that Odergaard is the "icing on the cake" player, for Arsenal.
He isn't the type of player who often turns around a game that Arsenal are losing.
KDB however, has dug City out of awkward situations (again on Friday) with match-winning performances and crucial goals.
Perhaps it's just me, but Odergaard doesn't seem to relish pressure and getting ruffled in a tough game ?
KDB just gets on with the kickings he gets and seems much calmer.
Arsenal have had tough luck with injuries this season, but that's why a squad has 25 players, including a few quality strikers...

His last two seasons were better than any for Arsenal since that season where they drew a lot of games.

This season they've dropped off a little, but are at the moment favourites for 2nd, and had their best season in Europe in the last 16 years.

And despite the headline figures for transfer spend, they had been running on a budget and wage bill that was significantly lower than City and Liverpool (In 2023 Liverpool's wage bill was 50% higher - a difference of something like £120m. The jump to City's wage was even bigger). The board will no doubt be looking at those results, alongside the fact that it's pushed their revenues up to similar levels as Liverpool. Unless there are problems inside the club with his management style, I'd be surprised if they weren't pretty happy overall - despite the disappointing end to the season.

I agree Odegaard is a luxury player in so far as he needs a strong midfield spine around him. His ability to play cute passes has been great over the last couple of years however this season he's been very poor and he's easy to neutralise.

My issue with him is aside from the passes he can't shoot from distance, doesn't tackle and is a pretty passive player so why on earth Arteta has him as captain I don't know. That being said I think he's Norway's captain as well so maybe I'm missing something.

Arsenal are a very mardy club.
The board is constantly trying to screw us over whilst using interest free owners loads. Plus writing letters asking for us to be found guilty when we're are innocent.

The board meet secretly with the snake Arteta breaking pl rules.

As soon as a match starts going wrong the fans leave in their 1000's before the end.

They biggest game for about a decade against psg it sounded like a library.

We have had a poor season but are only 3 points behind and actually won more games than them.

There really isn't anything to like about Arsenal, they even bribed they way into the top flight when finishing 5th.

Well I have no sympathy for them, absolutely none.
Why?
The c*nts targeted Rodri in our match against them early in the season, contributing towards his long term injury.
Ooh dark arts this, dark arts that say c*nts in the media, almost praising Captain Black for turning his team into thugs and cheats.
Karma ultimately came and bit them on the arse.
ODHSNM!
Deserve everything they get.

Did I mention that they are c*nts,
dirty, cheating c*nts of the worst kind.

Suck it up piers morgan, along with alan davies and all the rest!

C*nts.

Aye not doubting all of that. But I think they are where they are after how many years of Arteta failing, and failing again this year. And it's not the failure, its the flakey way they fail. No backbone, no belief that they can get it over the line. Arteta should have got that into them by now.

Yes the finances might make the board happy, they might keep him on, but they think about the money, they can't see that arteta just doesn't have it. That they will be hurriedly looking for a replacement when the fans turn mid season.

It's a tricky one, because that 'failure' is the best they've done. United would love to be up there.

Looking at the jump in finances (figures below are Euros), and with the season they've had in the CL this year, that could go even higher next year, I'd imagine that the pressure really starts now. He's now competing on more of a level playing field financially (while still well below City and United, it's not the same kind of difference), and 2nd places won't be quite such an overachievement.
